Would overboost cause bucking?

Hello guys,

Newbie, with a newbie question. Had some parts laying around, so I installed the buschur filter kit yesterday. Car currently is deadstock besides that. While it made a lot more sound, I got slower. I could feel a good hesitation now at the upper RPM's, and bucking is occuring in 2nd and 3rd gear every now and then. I searched the other threads relating to overboost, and it seems like most got a CEL (which I have none) and not quite sure. The ECU is going to be sent out soon for a re-flash, however wanted to make sure another can of worms was not opened. I used to pull my wife in her 350z real hard, now she walks me.

No boost leaks
did NOT descreen the maf as I showed in a couple of threads
hesitation is only at high RPM and bucking in 2nd and 3rd gears

Thanks.

Edit- should have mentioned, stock boost still being controlled by the ECU.

most likely its the filter without a tune. re install the stock air box and see if the car still "bucks"

you dont need to retune your car when installing an air filter.

i would check to see if your intake is air tight between the maf and the turbo. it sounds like you probably have a leak there. check your intercooler piping too. you should also install a boost gauge. that would tell you if you are overboosting or not.

the flash is highly recommended after a cone filter such as buschur intake. and as said if u revert to stock intake box, it will most likely get rid of this issue.

ive recently installed the buschur intake kit and havent gotten a tune yet and i dont have any problems like that, actually i can notice a difference. i added an extra car and a half on a mach 1 my friend has so i dont think its because he doesnt have a tune.. Did u check your MAF to see if you put it on upside down or something? That is my only guess.. and actually i dont know if that would even cause it to run different or not

Im not sure how the buschur intake setup is but if you get a cone filter you do need a retune.

Thanks for the replies... Woud re-install the old airbox if it wasn't destroyed when pulling it apart from the MAF. did like in some of the FAQ with the sludge to not break the little tabs in the airbox, well it cracked the airbox in half

yes, you do need a retune after installing an open air intake.

A tune will fix your problems. Then you can put the shame on your wife.

it would definetly help. Filters like that tend to lean the car out more. And up top you are hitting eithter boost or fuel cut. I would definetly invest in a TBE, boost gauge, and mbc as your next line of mods. In that order

Yea, you'll need a tune. At high rpm's like around 4k and up thats when you'll start to stall. I had a tune before I installed the filter, but it still happened to me. Gotta adjust the boost higher.

can someone explain to me how something as simple as a filter, would REQUIRE you to retune your entire car?

some can argue that you now have a bit less restriction, and a bit more air flow going into the motor, but the stock maf still sees that air. there is no need to tune your ecu after such a simple change! if the car is bucking or hesitating, then its because there is an air leak somewhere between the maf and the throttle body.
