Car I am buying is modded, opinions on the mods it has, next mods I should do?

Bought this car yesterday (pending my bank's inspection and money transfer.)

2003 Evo 8, Tarmac Black
43k miles

Mods:
New Excedy Stg 1 clutch
3 inch AMS turbo-back
Defi boost gauge
Greddy Turbo Timer
SAFC with AMS stage 1 tune
K&N
TEIN S tech lowering springs

Are the mods the car already has good pieces? Any glaring potential reliability problems with any of these? Assuming the rest of the car is stock, what other basic performance mods would you guys recommend for a car that will be my daily driver with occasional weekend track/autocross use? Any glaring weaknesses with my setup that can be made more efficient for not a lot of money? I know the springs are more for show and that I should probably switch those out.

I am learning about these EVOS slowly but surely, have been using search, but these are a little different than what I am used to (LSX's.) Thanks in advance, guys.

The Tein S-tech springs are one of the worst springs you can get. They are way too low and the spring rates are not compatible with the stock struts. The AMS TBE is a great piece and the boost gauge is good as well. K&N drop in (?) is ok mod.

43K is a lot of miles for a modded evo that you don't know how it was driven or abused. Good luck and welcome to the site.

Thanks for the info. I'd assume that since the springs suck, I would probably have to sell them on ebay instead of on the forums then... Any spring in particular a good overall performer that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

As far as having a lot of miles and being modded, I sell cars and have bought and sold a lot of personal cars and the car drove straight and seemed mechanically sound... I'm pretty familiar with checking a car over pretty well. I don't mind that the car was driven hard, IMO there's a big difference between driven hard and abused.

Any other basic boltons that have been overlooked on this car?

Tanabe or the eibach is good choice too. get the cheapest one. Basicly no difference between them at all. You do not need upgrades yet,go to autox and road course or drag racing. Alots of learning ahead. Then you can decide where you want to go with the upgrades.
Also get a good tires.
Good luck ! welcome here.

The cheapest one, huh? Now you are speaking my language.

The car has recent Ecsta MX's on it right now, I hear that they are a pretty decent all around summer tire.

I learned the hardware when it come sto buying a Modded EVO.

The day I got it. Spun a bearing.
But thank god the shop i got the car from is taking responsibility and
Now I have a JAM Stroker. But i was lucky.

It’s an evo with mod's you know the car was BEAT ON.
But from the looks of it the pervious owner had some decent taste.

I almost guaranty you can find another car, (not modded) for probably less then what u were going to get this one for.

yeah I agree. 43K on the struts along with the added abuse of the tein's on them. I would look into getting some coilovers. You can find an entry level coilover for 800.

I have Megan racing Coilovers and I have no complaints. Worth every penny.

You've seen these for less than $18,400? Let me reference another thread I started the other day....
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=294041
People in this thread said I was nuts to think I could get one for this money.

And from what I have seen, these are basic boltons as opposed to max effort-type mods. The guy I bought it from wasn't some snot nosed high school turd... He's an ASE certified mechanic. I'm not worried about the car.

I'll probably get coilovers eventually, just don't want to spend the cash just yet.

OWNED!

I just spent $23k on an Evo with similar mods. Just newer, and 20k less miles.
He's right, not kiddie owned, with tasteful mods is as good as you can get.
Especially at that price.
(you bastard)

I'd ****** that up real quick.

Just expect some of the money you save to be going back into the car later in maintenance.
