2004 was basically the same car, but leather became a option. First year of the RS.
2005 had a upgraded 10.5 hotside, ACD, and front LSD. The HID's, leather, and sunroof were put into a package called the sun, sound, leather package. First year of the MR. HID's were only standard on the MR.
2006 had a upgraded compressor housing, MIVEC, better interior, new wheels, new bumper and all the other stuff on the 05's. First and only year of the SE. HID's were only standard on the MR's and SE's.

Both are good choices. I've had a 03 and a 06 and the 06' is faster stock. You can buy a 03-05 and put a 9 turbo on it. You just won't have the ACD which inst really needed driving the car on the street IMO. I don't really use mine.

The hotside is the exhaust side of the turbo. 03's and 04's had a 9.8 hotside. The 10.5 is good for a few more HP when added to a 03-04. Yes, you can only get HID's if you get the SSL package. Unless you want to buy a MR.

what about this one, around $19,500 but has some issues, STAY AWAY?:
More information about the Evolution VIII. Starts up quickly and runs strong. Shifts smoothly in all gears. Front brakes are new, rear pads are low. AC does not blow cold, unknown issue. Tag light is out. ABS light is on, sensor needs to be replaced. Check engine light is on, this could be due to the high-performance cam. Steering wheel is off-center at 3 O'clock.
