Having a 6th gear helps significantly, having cruise control also helps a whole lot, just these two things alone are a big difference compare to a Evo 9 5 speed but then add 300lbs of weight(Evo X v Evo 9) and add the fact that it uses 245 tires(overkill in my opinion).

It you sum it all up I expect similar gas mileage based on what I just mentioned. Evo X owners, be aware there is a recall on the Evo X ECU. Other members already reported a 11lbs and 0 hp gain but also better gas mielage after Mitsubishi recall ECU.

Last but not least, if you have a spare minute please type www.edmunds.com and look the reviews on the regular Evo X, absolutely every review from the 5 speed Evo X owners have a complaint to say about the 5 speed gearing, mainly on the rpm and fuel issue.

I get between 8-27mpg. I get as little as 100 miles per tank, to as much as 330 miles per tank. It all depends on how you drive it. I love getting on it, but I hate myself for it when i fill up at 150-200 miles to the tank. With gas prices, I keep telling myself to keep off the gas pedal / boost and shift at lower RPMs before I start building boost, but that just doesn't seem to happen.

As I've already mentioned, a few things come in to play here ...

1) I'm on E10 fuel ... not sure what everyone else is on. That will decrease mileage by about 2% on its own.
2) I'm on 245/45 tires. That's a 1.4% mileage decrease simply based on the change in speed the dash sees. This also means I burn a little more fuel in the city by widening the gearing ... boost hits earlier.
3) On the low end of the spectrum ... the 200 miles ... that's with an auto-x and a few WOT tuning pulls in the mix. Normal street driving nets me about 220 to 230 per tank. That's with a 15.8:1 mix as well ...
4) The taller tires give a little better mileage on the hwy by lowering the revs.

So, with 235/45 tires and 93 octane w/ no ethanol, I'd probably be at around 210 city and 310 hwy, which is a little closer. People on 255/40's will see even higher mileage in the city and less on the hwy ...
