Drivetrain fluids

Ok so I've already put a few thousand miles on my evo 9 and it's currently at about 14k miles. I was wondering if I need to change the tranny, center diff, and rear diff fluid all at once and what fluid I should use. I know there are a couple different fluids people like to use so just give me your personal opinion of what your experiences are with different fluids. Thanks

BTW I plan on doing a clutch ASAP cause I am already sick of the stock clutch.

15k is the recommended change interval for severe driving ... drag, track, auto-x, etc. This is my list of fluids:

Code:
*  Engine
          o Oil - AMSOIL ATM 10W-30
          o Filter - WIX 57092

    * Transmission
          o Oil - AMSOIL MTG 75W-90 API GL-4

    * Transfer Case
          o Oil - AMSOIL SVG 75W-90

    * Rear Differential
          o Oil - AMSOIL SVG 75W-90

    * Brakes
          o Fluid - AMSOIL Series 600 DOT4
I like AMSOIL as you can tell. I tried the engine oil first and loved it, so I decided to run it in the drivetrain when I hit 15k (well, 17k ... I was lazy). I've been running it for about 6k now with no issues.

It honestly doesn't feel much different because I had the good stuff (Super Diaqueen) in the 6-speed from the factory. No noise though ... no TC whine, no Diff clunking, nothing. So, when people respond and say the car will explode if you don't use stock fluid, take it with a grain of salt ...

For my money, I'd not run anything other than Diaqueen in the t-case and diff. Aside from that, change your brake fluid and drive-train yearly...

Where can I get the Diaqueen? What should I use in the tranny? Some people have told me to go with Redline MT90 in my tranny

Another reason I'm asking about my drivetrain fluids is because my car started grinding 5th when I do a pull in 4th. Under normal driving it shifts perfectly fine into every gear. The reason it's grinding is b/c I f***** up one night when I went to run somebody. I went to downshift into 2nd and my foot slipped off the clutch and then I tried to compensate with the gas but the car jerked pretty bad and my foot kept hitting the gas. It jerked a few times and after that when I would shift into 5th out of 4th it would grind. Even when I do a short pull to around 4 grand in 4th it wants to grind unless I shift slowly. I do have the stock clutch and I have the warranty so I want to take it to the local mitsu dealer so they can check it out. I noticed my clutch engages a little high since I bought the car with 10,800 miles though. I bled the clutch yest to see if that would help with the grind in 5th but it didn't. Same results after I pull it in 4th. Now I know there aren't many times where I'm gonna tach out 4th gear and have to shift into 5th but my point is it shouldn't be doing this.

It sounds like you may have damaged a synchro. That sucks ... A great fluid might help, but likely not completely fix the issue.

You get Diaqueen from the Mitsu dealer. You want Super Diaqueen though ... 75w-85 ... the stuff for the 6-speed. It's the better of the 2. MT-90 is good fluid as well ... I used it in my VW with great results. I would still recommend the AMSOIL MTG though.

You should talk to OilDoc here on the forums. He's an AMSOIL dealer, but he's very honest and informative about oils. He can probably show you many tests and comparisons that might help you choose.

Forgot about Mitsubishiparts.net ... they are a vendor here. http://www.mitsubishiparts.net/catalog/?section=598

Ya I guess I'll find out about what kind of damage I have when I take it to the dealership. If the tranny needs work and has to be pulled it'll be under warranty work. And while it's out I'm gonna have an ACT clutch and flywheel put it. My only worry about that is they won't warranty a non-oem part so if it ****s up their hands will be in the air. And who knows if they'll do the job right ya know.

I purchased an entire round of fluids including a pump and oil filter from AMSOIL for around $120 I think. I even have enough for another diff/TC change.

How could I have messed up a 5th gear sychro if I wasn't shifting into 5th gear? It was when I went to downshift into 2nd. I was thinking it might just be that I am needing another clutch.

So...... Who makes Diaqueen this year ? That would be my question...

They send it out for bid every 3 years just like every other OEM....

It meets a basic spec..

I have several hundred Forum members running AMSOIL MTG in the trannies and SVG in the TC and Diff with no problems. Many of these are on their second round of fluids with me and some on their 3rd.

Don't get me wrong, the Diaqueen is probably a decent fluid, way overpriced though. But many people have noticed a marked improvement over it and RedLine after they have switched..
