sick idea

Hey I am new to the forum, basically I have this idea in my head and am tryign to do my research and I need you guy's help. I live in the US and the only Evo over here was just released (evo VIII) which is too expensive for me to afford, (I am heading to college here soon). So basically, what I am thinking about doing, is buying a 1997-2000 Mitsubishi Mirage and throwing in the Evo engine and Drivetrain and converting it to AWD and then throwing the Evo V kit on it along with new suspension. Basically what I need help with is that the only engine that will bolt in to the Mirage easily is the Evo IV-VII engine with the timing belt on the drivers side, I need to find the best and cheapest place to find one of these motors and transmissions. Also, I don't know too much about the Evo motor yet, but will the Eclipse GSX tranny mount with the evo motor? Last question, is the motor I am looking for the 4g63t (eclipse motor) or is the the 4g93t?

dude its gonna be way expensive to do all that stuff to a mirage. First off mirage is like sucky and youre gonna have to change more than the engine. Its gonna cost way too much to convert it to AWD and Evo ENgine and Turbo and New Pipes and Body Kit and all. I mean if you wanna be original then sure, but money wise.. I wouldnt go for that when you can finance an evo.

Dude, for the performance upgrades you're looking at, and given the possible problems of all the swaps, I'd say screw your plans, put money into a savings account and try to buy an Evo in a year or two. Trust me, it'll be a lot easier this way.

well from the research I have done, everything bolts almost directly in, even the suspension. The car will only cost $3000, I just need to find out how much the motor and drivetrain will cost, and where I need to look for them. Any info would be helpful, the problem with financing one is that I am goign to college in 2 weeks and I wont have a job down there, I am going to try to get $8000 out of my car and use it for the conversion, the body kit only cost $300 on ebay, and I already have a mechanic tha will do the swap working independently for $30 and hour, I just need pricing on the motor and drivetrain. Thanks guys.

As far as I know, everything will not just bolt right in. In addition, your price estimation appears to be way too optimistic to me. You might want to take a look at the little write-up I put together based on the 3-4 years research that I've done. You have to factor in the labor cost as well.

Good luck in your research.

Mate,

A friend of mine put an FTO engine in his Mirage. 150KW at the wheels (200hp) after he did some headwork and a few other mods.

That's just shy of what an Evo puts out on that Dyno, but, the Mirage is also 300kg lighter (660lbs). His biggest problem is traction control, and he has 245/17s!

THe engine is a straight swap. It cost him about $5k AUD ($3K American, roughly)

Think about it.

lets not forget brakes. mirage brakes SUCK, and will also have to be upgraded. i also would say save for the evo, or put the money in your stealth.

That's an EVO I engine, which will not fit into a 5G (97-01) Mirage without extensive cutting/welding in the engine bay. Not that feaseable.

actually, that is the right one, I believe, I was told that the belts need to be on the drivers side, and the intake manifold is supposed to open towards the passenger side, this is what I was told anyways. As far as putting the money into my car, I am at the point where it is do or die, I can't do anything else without having to do big modifications, and the 3S platform is platform is not very tunable yet, making it very expensive, too expensive for me since I am goign to school. Basically, I will have about 10k to spend after I sell my car, which is not enough for an Evo, but I believe it is enough for the swap. I was going to try to throw the DSM motor in, but it will only work with the 4g mirage, and I don't like the bodystyle.
