also, you said you would get bored with it going from a 400hp car to a stock evo. i am in the same situation as you are, and i have had my evo for 2 months now, and it is still a blast to drive.

also i would really consider getting a 9. idk why you are saying that 9's are going for 30k, but i got mine for 24k out the door from a dealer. i say be patient, until you find a nice 9. you will not regret it

also as others said, i would steer clear of the red evo.
Still, 24k isn't cheap for a used Evo IMO. The newest Evo 9 out there is an 06' and I have been seeing them go anywhere from $26-28k which I am not going to spend. I don't want a note. I can swing the money out of pocket for an 8, just not an 9.

I know the 9's are nicer but i can get an 8 for half of the price. I know that stock for stock the 9 will blow the 8 away but I never leave anything stock.

I figured that for the price difference that the 8 costs vs. the 9 I can build an 8 that is way faster than most 9's on the streets.

I am also looking at a silver 05' Evo 8 right now, just going to cost alot more than that ugly *** red one, lol. I can get that one for about $13k which I could still swing but it would definately cut down on my mod money. At least that 05' silver evo was completely stock

i hear ya man. i would at least lean towards the silver 8. one because silver>red , and two if it wasn't modified at all, it was probably less beat on. good luck with whatever you decide to jump into. i'm sure it will be a beast

Steer clear of that red Evo.

I say again:

STEER CLEAR OF THAT RED EVO.

It looks thrown together with absolutely no thought put into what was used. An eManage? Come the hell on. Red painted mesh? A bunch of pointless stickers thrown in the engine bay? 10 miles of vacuum lines? NO.

Also, I've been able to find used IXs as low as $18k these days, in great condition and stock. Take your time and look around. If you gotta travel a few hours it's so worth it in the end.

My first bit of advice:

Stay away from the tein coil overs and go with something better like KW or JIC or Ohlin.. if money is a concern look at the new BC series of double adjustables (independant bump and rebound adjustment).

I'm sure some will jump on me for dissing tein but there were several guys on here that had them split apart where they bolt to the upright.

Also. make sure that car was not up to the windsheild in salt water, may want to pull the driver side kick pannel off and look at the healt of the main junction harness, make sure there is no corrosion there etc.

Nice looking Acura, and welcome to evo world!

[QUOTE=archull;6635826]I was really leaning more towards a stock evo but for the price of this thing I will buy it if its in as good of condition as they say it is.

For the price that they are selling the EVO 9's, I may as well just pick up an Evo X. I could never see spending almost 30k on a used evo.

The price of the car, lol. I would be getting this one for stupid cheap

yeah there might be a reason for that man, be careful.

Welcome!
Careful with purchasing that car...
There's a lot of great info on the site, so it'll do you a lot of good to take a look around.
I'd suggest the FPRed for a street car =]

You can reach that number or come damn close with a Forced Performance Red turbo w/ methanol and all the bolt ons with a good tune... do some searching on it, it has basically replaced the need to go 30R, plus it uses the stock housing so externally it appears stock... If you are sticking w/ stock internals it is the way to go to aiming for that hp number with almost stock-like spool

Sweet dc5. That red Evo looks like a hack job from hell. Remember that you get what you pay for and 8k in this case may be 8k wortk of problems... Good luck.

heard H&R coilover ride extremely nice. But anyway you can find a 9 for cheaper but that red is dirt cheap and doesnt look good. I would stick with something cleaner looking.

Good turbos out there, look into stock appearing turbos. They have good spool up and make good power. CBRD bbk (delivery power/damn close to stock spool) and the fp red (peak power)

Hitting that much power on a red at 5200+ rpm is no where close to stock like spool. Stick with the 30R and do a twin scroll if you have the funds. Full race makes a crazy TS30R kit.

I think ya'll are goin overkill on sayin it's a hack job from hell,

yeah it does have 15 miles of vaccum hosing and some mods that don't make perfect sense. But I think what he should do is do a compression test, a leakdown test. listen for transfer case whine, any tranny problems etc.. if all of those turn out good then buy it!!
