welcome!, I am kind in the same boat as you, I can't decide between import or domestic, everyday my mind juggles around of what I want.

On a side note, you can't go wrong with either Raw performance or AMS.

03/04 has returnless fuel system, sub par to return system stock on 96-98
03/04 has Iron 4 bolt main block compared to 96-98 6 bolt main aluminum Teksid block. which despite being aluminum is rated for 1600 horse stock. 100lbs lighter too.
03/04 weighs about 3600lbs roughly vs 3300 roughly for the 96-98.
96-98 has the most aerodynamic body
96-98 has no speed governor stock.
03/04 guys swap out their stock blower to make anything over 500rwhp.

Better to just throw a 6 speed in the 96-98, forged it, and boost it if you have high plans. If you just want 400rwhp then grab the 03/04.

As for insurance that was Progressive who is already cheaper than anyone else I've quoted.
My response wasn't meant to start an argument between Cobra models. It was directed towards the guy that talked down towards the Cobra.

Either way, I'd still go with a Terminator. Being boosted right out of the factory. The motors can handle gobs of power. Before the 2.3L whipple was on my car, with just a port, pulley, intake, exhaust and tune, it put down 500rwhp.

I prefer the looks of the 03-04s to the 96-98's. I was happy with the IRS in my '04. I guess if I was heavy into drag racing, I'd consider a SRA. And just like anything else, a newer car is likely going to weigh more than previous generations. And the speed governor is moot IMO!

I've had my Evo for a couple months now, and I'm already thinking about getting back into an 03-04. The torque and RWD is addicting.

Don't get me wrong I love Termy's as well, thats one of the cars on my list. but the problem is the IRS in the mustangs, this car can easily get away from you unexpectedly. at least with a AWD you have some what more control over the power since its at all 4 wheels instead of 2. the same goes for FWD you get alot of Torque Steer with FWD if you get alot of power up front.

I really hate to say it.. Cause my goal in life is to own a '02 Trans Am Ws6 red, auto with black on black interior and a '05 Cummins diesel to pull my boat.

But honestly you made a great choice going for these 4-bangers. My second Evo I owned and my first I totally humiliated a '97 trans am with vortech supercharger. We did a 30-120 mph race. I gained a lot up to 80 mph. So when I noticed that I still pulled away from him on 4th, I actually let off the gas to not disappoint the man. He really like my car, and it's not every V8 driver who does that, and he was so nice that I really didn't want to embarras him. But the Trans am is a very beautiful car and I love them!

My only mod was exhaust, on a JDM Evo.

Here is my take. I am 40 and always a V8 muscle car guy. Hated rice. I currently have a 462CI Big Block Buick in my 72 Skylark (monster torque). I have a 383 stroker 72 Corvette and until recently never owned anything that was not at least a V6. Toyota Sequoia V8 SR5 4x4 is my wifes vehicle.

Well, with the economy, fuel, life (wife and 2 kids) I had to make some compromises. I am probably in a bit of a mid life crisis (not really, I just love cars). Anyway, I wanted a sports car as a daily but with the garage and driveway full, I decided to combine some vehicles into one.

So, I started shopping rice grinders for the fun factor and what I perceived as bang for the buck. I was zeroed in on the Cobalt SS sedan, 09 WRX, Ralliart, and I thought the X was too much money. I did not want an 8 or 9 as I felt they are just a little too harsh for a daily driver.

Anyway, I drove an X and was hooked. I hate to say this, but I actually find my BUICK slow now (it is a low 12 second car....12.2). I don't think the X is as fast in stock form, but much quicker, and throw in the steering and braking and it blows me away.

The only problem with the X, I really don't care for the seats in a daily driver. Other than that I love it. In the spring I think I will hit BUSCHUR and get at least a tune and maybe more. I am addicted to the turbo rush. PLUS in AWD, I can drive it year round.

The best part is wasting my brother in his 05 ROUSH!! He just went down to get the injectors cleaned, thinking that was the problem!! If he only knew!!!

The big wing in over the top, but to me makes a EVO an EVO.

Kids (20's) roll up, I wonder what they think when they see the old gray hair guy driving?!!

You won't miss your V8 at all, the handling will kill that mustang.

Felt like reporting back that I picked up my IX in November, and absolutely everything here was true.

I don't miss the V8, I now view it as much less of a car than I thought. The Evo is just that bad ***.

I'm so glad I didn't change my mind.

Congrats now watch this vid. Not an Evo cam car but a GTR ....but you get the idea. Mustang walks the GTR in the straights and it's a N/A beast. GTR has some great braking. Have fun!
