EVO VIII vs STi vs Mazdaspeed3

i love ms3!! just for the looks and color though. Mazda has the best boldest colors!! I am addicted to the way they look and they also have more room if he needs that for something. I would for sure get the evo though. Whoever said matenence cost for an evo is alot is an idiot!! The evo is soooo cheap to take care of. All the parts cost nothing. Even upgrades, i see full TBE'S FS everyday in socal for as low as $150!!!! The power you get dime for dime on the evo is UNBEATABLE!! No other car responds to mods as well. No not the the STI either.

I gotta ask, someone I know said a full bolt on MS3 (I dunno, ~350whp) would beat a full bolt on 8/9 from a roll from 60-155mph..
I certainly don't do this kind of racing, but I found that hard to believe, even with the MS3 advantage of FWD and slightly lighter weight etc.

i say it really depends on what his goals are, if he wants a drag car go with the evo, cause they make more power easily and are fun to drive, but have tranny issues, STi is more an even trade of power and functionality, our trannys are solid, but were not as mod friendly, MS3 i really dont know **** bout that car.

Pick up a modified magazine and see how cheep it is to build a 500+ WHP evo 8. The evo kills ALL AWD cars for bang for your buck performance. If you can fine one, I would go with the 2005 Evo RS. Don't mind the mileage. Rebuild the motor and put on a big turbo.
Based upon how things are going. You can almost always find someone needing to get ride modified evo. I know that here in Colorado, I saw three or four fire sales in 2009.
I've never seen a fast mazdaspeed3...

if you drive a car like a normal person it will be easy to maintain and cheap, you drive it like a maniac and it can cause you to spend a lot of money yes. Evo 8 is the right choice

I think you should let him buy what he wants. We've all bought cars we shouldn't have, then fallen in love with them anyway. For me, it was the Contour SVT. It was chock full of problems from the factory, but I still loved it. He'll probably do just fine with a MS3 anyway.
Besides, if he won't even test drive it to see the glory that is an AWD sports sedan, then it sounds like he's made up his mind. If you just want to give him hell, though, tell him he should consider a Scion xD too, or the Ford Fiesta (it's coming soon). Hell, even a Jetta wagon would work. To me, they, along with the Mazdaspeed 3, reflect a similar "I'm comfortable with my alternative lifestyle" image that would be completely negated by driving a badass Evo 8-9 or WRX. But who am I to talk? I fell in love with a grandma car...

Like a lot of people have already said, its really about what the guy is trying to do with the car. If he wants a 10 sec DD then I say go with STI or Evo, cause there isnt even a 10 sec Speed3 that exists. I have a Speed 3 and am currently looking for an Evo to buy. Speeds are good cars but you have to watch out for them cause just like every other car they have their kinks and bad things about them. Some people like "Brand New" as opposed to used and for 23k you get a lot of car with the speed.
