High Pressure Automatic Car Washes - Yay or Nay?

I'm curious as to how well the CF Wing/Hoods holds up to the high pressure wash? I use a manual pressure washer all the time with no issues, but it appears the automatic ones put out more pressure.

you should be ok, assuming everything was bolted down properly, CF is stronger then most other materials out there, id be cautious if u have a splitter or canards though

Id be most afraid of ground clearance. Some of the automated car washes use tracks and rollers, which could spell disaster for a lowered car.

Well the one nearest me doesn't have any rails or rollers. It's all open and level.

Ive seen "touch free" before, but I wasnt sure how touch free it was. As in you drive in, it does the wash, and you drive out? thats cool

yes. It has no brushes at all. Just high pressure soap, rinse, wax and a high pressure dry cycle. Very cool stuff. Not too bad since it's about $8.

I would only do that when I don't have the time to do all the drying myself.

I've never had a good experience with automatic washes. Always seems to miss spots, especially around the wing and trunk area. Also I'd be less worried about the carbon fiber and more worried about your paint with the pressure wash. Mitsubishi isn't known for the quality of their paint.

I always wondered if those strip off your wax as well.

If you use a good wax I don't think that they will completely strip the wax off. I use the same waxes and polishes that I use on my Evo also on my Jeep and have run the Jeep through the high pressure washes and the water still beads nicely afterwards. I really like the turtle wax ice products as a whole but use Gliptone Body Gloss for when I really want the car to stand out.

Of course it matters which ones you go to. I've had ones that did a less good job, and ones that did a great job, but never one that did a bad job.

Someone mentioned they have a hard time doing the wing right, again depends on where you go, not all of them are the same.

That all being said, that high of pressure would probably be tougher on your paint than a house hose, you know? I don't have facts, but logic tells you, if you use something spraying 10x as hard, it's going to do the same damage as 10x the washes in one...

I haven't done enough auto washes to be an expert though. Probably 15 on my RSX. The paint was still fantastic even after it was 6 years old though.

car washes don't work without brushes. stop being lazy and just wash your own car.

'cmon now, that's not fair.

I've witnessed first hand they do a good job. Not everyone has the time to wash their own car.

Be nice
