Evo IX low-end torque

is it true that under 2000 RPM the Evo IX really sucks with torque? I've been reading heaps of STI and Evo IX reviews and while most say that the Evo wins around the track, they also say the STI has much more torque and acceleration at lower RPMs leading me to believe that they are funner in everyday driving when you aren't speeding like hell.

Is this true? what do you think about this

let's see....2.0liter vs 2.5ltr. yeah I guess the sti would win that battle. You drive a veyron why do you care?

Here's some food for thought. There isn't one model of wrx/sti that can come close to keeping up with an equally modded Evo.

2.0 vs 2.5ltr is the answer to your question

but, it comes down to why we would buy an evo?

different people have different reasons, but i think we'd all agree on one thing

"i didnt buy my evo for its acceleration from 0 to 50"

other posts would comment on the evos driveline being alot more reliable etc..

i like the looks of the evo more than the sti and the fact that it handles better. i dont care for comfort. but what bothers me is the lack of low-end torque since i'd be using this as a daily driver mainly and dont really plan on racing etc. some spirited driving here and there for sure

at what RPM does the evo IX really start to pull?

If you use the clutch right there really isnt any lag off the line. If you are idling in first gear and punch it it will take some time to hit boost.

If want to mod, get an Evo. If you want to keep stock get a STI. On the real... STI is a better all around STOCK daily driver. Evo just has more potential for way less money. STI uses a heat soaking TMIC? cmon...

Boost threshold on a stock 9 is around 2800-2900rpm with basic intake/exhaust mods and a decently setup Mivec map on the stock ECU. That's pretty much where the car becomes able to get out of its own way. Until then it's like a Civic .

The WRX/STI is actually laggier than the Evo, you can thank subaru and 4 feet of exhaust piping before the turbo for that one.

so basically, stock on stock, the sti has more torque at lower RPM but the Evo kills it at higher RPM

as for mods, the evo is cheaper and easier to mod

am i getting somewhere here?

The only time I ever see 2000RPM or less is when the car is moving from standstill a leisurely pace. It's a non-issue.
