looking into getting an evo

so right now have a s/c v6 mustang. right now im planning on selling the s/c kit and $2300 and car for $7,000 which puts me around 10,000. then ill just save all winter untill mid spring or early summer and looking into buying an evo. pref evo 8 or 9. now my question is. is a decent evo obtainable for around $14000? i know evos downfalls are the trans and that but jw is it possible to find one for that price?

besides cosmetic diffrences, the biggest difference is the mivec , you can get a decent evo 8 but wont find a evo 9 for that price unless something horribly wrong with it

its not that expensive to close the gap between an 8 and a 9, so just buy what you can afford. IMO the transmission arent "weak" but if you are going to mod it heavily the trans and transfer case are weak.

Just some advice from someone who bought a used evo - try to find one that has all the bolt ons- full exhaust, tune, boost controller and fuel pump, maybe even cams-youll save money if you were planning to mod it, just make sure you know what you are looking at.

i bought one at 55k and ended up doing clutch, pads, rotors, driveline fluids and timing kit and water pump before i hit 60k. it was expensive, but now the car is pretty much good til 120k, so if i keep it for a few years its worth it.

i love my evo, but it is expensive

Yeah, once you get in the game of modding your evo, be prepared for an expensive adventure. I love this car because you can gain an insane amount of HP in relatively little time for not as much cash as it would take to get most cars up to this level. Just take your time, study the moves you want to make and have a clear objective in mind. This forum is an great tool to do research and ask around, everyone is here to help you. Around 60,000 it is a good time to do a good once over on the car, belts, clutch (if its been beat up by previous owner), and all those goodies. Welcome to the forums though, I hope you can find a car that suits you without breaking the bank. Just make sure whoever you buy the car from knew what he was doing if he modded it, and if at all possible, get the original parts that he took off, in case something goes wrong, so you have a backup plan...

k and other than the 60,000 mile mark tune up is it then relativly low maintainence? other than oil, trans oil and diff oil changes and little stuff like that?

i dont even need to mod it that much. it would seem like a lot of power for me going from a v6 mustang to an evo 8.

what would you guys say for me to stay away from? as far as mods done to the car previous to me buying and

Seeing you suprecharged your mustang you're not going to ride around in a stock Evo. If that's the case you'll end up spending more than you think. But you'll have more fun than you can imagine.
Sometimes I think a drug addiction would be cheaper
