Should I buy a totalled Evo
So a local guy totalled his 2003 Evo GSR and is selling it as a parts car. The car only has 40k miles on it. It was all body. Everything else is good. The motor, trans, transfer, suspension, interior, and even his TurboXS intercooler.
The story is he got rear ended and that caused him to rear end the car in front of him. Once again, only body damage
He has chosen an exact price, but it wont be anymore then $2k he said. So should I buy it?
Also, I have 2003 Evo GSR too, but it has 93k miles on it. Would it be smarter for me to just sell all his parts or replace my motor and drivetrain with is his and sell my motor and drivetrain?
I am not buying this car to keep. I'm buying it to part out and maybe keep some nice parts for myself.
Its all going! PART OUT

Honestly if there is nothing wrong with your motor/drivetrain why swap it when you dont even know how bad his is? unless it is your car you really dont have any idea how or what kind of damage is done to his.

Depends on where the accident occurred..like did air bags deploy and the whole nine yards?
If you have the skills and resources to rebuild it or part it out then go for it and make a few bucks or keep the good stuff to yourself.
I personally would not buy a totaled car, but if you wanted a project and you know all the details and what you are getting into then go for it.

My main idea was to buy it and then turn around and part it out.
But then my buddy pointed out that it has less then half the mileage of my car and might be worth swapping the motor and tranny

like everyone else has said, if you've got the time, and skills to do the part out, buy it. sounds like a good deal. i wouldn't swap my engine/tranny though, unless something is wrong with yours.
