car cuts out at around 5-5500rpms

My car is cutting out at around 5000-55000 rpms, it sort of feels like fuel cut without the "brick wall" effect, the rpms just sort of stop raising. Ive been trying to fix this problem since I bought the car, it has about 80k on it and was completely stock before I tried fixing the problem. I tried replacing/gapping spark plugs, I replaced the throttle body seals, and fixed EVERY boost leak. I have no clue what to do, id really like to feel the power of the evo though!

sounds like the snorkel syndrome. If your intake is stock, check that the snorkel scoop thing didnt come out of the air box. I had a hell of a time finding it when this happened to me...

Oh, and I actually just replaced the stock box with an aftermarket k&n hardpipe and cone filter. Same effect, good idea though I was thinking the same thing!

haha, the sound is basically just one quick stutter/misfire, but all power is lost when this happens. I did a boost leak test and fixed everything literally even the notorious throttle body seals. Possibly coils or cam angle sensor, I haven't touched either... Any other opinions or which one should I try first?

there is a guy having the same problem a couple threads down from yours and i suggested re-gapping the plugs to around .20 but someone else on there said it could be the cop setup maybe try those and see

Thank you, I saw that thread also, I'm kinda leaning towards the COP setup but I want to be sure before I spend that much money!

Sorry I should have mentioned my setup, yes it is totally stock other than the intake (just a daily driver). Stock boost level and pump gas.
