My goals for tomorrow.... Fix backlights, figure out turbo timer so when I come home at 12am it doesnt run for a minute bothering the neighbors. I find it not too hard to drive slow and I'm always in 5th it seems at 1800-2000rpm. Even on the freeway it scoots without a downshift.

I need to get my backlights working since my girlfriend thinks I'm a tard for paying so much when I can't even see how fast I'm going.

Shop will still fix it if I'm lost, they just said it would take a few days and that the owner had it lit which kinda told me that it's a hidden switch or fuse or something stupid. I decided to take the car and try to fix it own my own. The stock lights are still behind it so worst case it can come off.

I'm still just wowed about this car guys..... I feel like my entire world just changed out from underneath me. Such incredible handling and I can honestly say this feels a LOT like my buddies Porsche 968 with the 3 liter 4cyl, 220 or so to the ground NA, and rear drive.

This car would smoke it in a straight line AND the corners..... I'm very pleased with my purchase so far

The car looks good, just make sure the dealer gives you some kind of warranty on it in case something goes wrong with it.

Do I have an after market blow off valve?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhg8cYE5k4E

my car sounds *exactly* like that when I let off the gas. Also the spooling sound for my car is a lot louder..... I'd snap a pic but it's already dark out. Tomorrow I will though.

Everything I read says we only need our stock IX recirc.

Perhaps I need to get a different one because I really feel like a ricer it's so loud.

Thoughts? I have to wait a few weeks to order a tactrix cable since I put a lot of cash down on the car purchase. Unless someone locally has one and wouldn't mind simply pulling my rom so I can see if it's stock or not.

I'm in Michigan 25min from Detroit.

temp fix solution:

go to walmart or anywhere that sells ricer lights that plug into the lighter port
3M tape the light above the plastic.
you will have a light lol. i know it is ghetto but did this on a buddies car. we actually wired the LED lights to the headlight wire so when he turned his headlights on his led would come on.

Wonderful.... are you sure though?

I'm new to this, but from what I gather so far I thought it might just be the aftermarket blow off valve. I looked at it today and it looks rather fancy. I have to find more stock pics to compare before I'm certain however if it's stock or not. It was metalic silver and not something obvious like blue or purple metal.

The car is running rather good I'd say.... when I let off it doesnt stall or lose power like I'd expect. It also makes this noise when *barely* boosting and I let off, such as in 1st when going slow after a little gas, or in 5th when trying to only speed up a couple mph with a little nudge of the pedal. It get's much louder when I actually spool and create boost but the car drives the same....

I'm really thinking a youtube video might be in order. I might grab the girls camera and go make one tomorrow. Just know my car sounds literally just like that video I posted but with louder exhaust.

But now ya scared me and I'm going to go research this much more.

Lots of hi res photos of engine bay, blow off valve, exterior and interior gauges. The site is on my dev webserver which isn't on the best connection but I prefer keeping my stuff on my own server at my own quality wihtout ads.

Video (more to come, just showing what it sounds like)

Let me know what kind of BOV that is... I think it says GFB Deceptor or something similar.

I found this post when searching that somewhat indicates this might be normal... However it's for the X and not the IX but what do you guys think?

Our testing has shown that best throttle response is achieved with firmer spring settings, which typically only allow the valve to start venting when the car is being driven in a “spirited” fashion. This is because a firmer setting will hold slightly more pressure in the intercooler and pipes during a gearshift, and hence shorten the time it takes to get back to full boost when you re-open the throttle (not really an issue if you have the SST model though since you don’t lift the throttle to shift). This will however increase the amount of flutter you get when rolling off the throttle slowly, or lifting off before the turbo has fully spooled, but as long as that noise doesn’t bother you, there is no harm in setting it up this way and there is a small improvement to be had.

So I see it has an adjustable knob. Is this purely a sound thing, or should I avoid messing with it since I'm not changing the engine tune or watching AFR?

It appears to be all the way open and I'm still worried if this is a good setting for my car or not. I'm so scared to break something since I just got the car.

try and adjust it. if that does not change anything then defiantly ditch it and get a stock dv! sounds like compressor surge. There are only a few aftermarket bov's, DV's that work well with our cars. ALOT!! of info on this this subject so im not gonna get into it! search! and if you decide to go back to the stock dv shoot me a pm I have one I will let go for a good price!!

Reporting back that the BOV was seized and fully cleaning it and reassembling it was the fix.

BTW Brett Turner at GFB provides such amazing 1 on 1 email support. Just had to mention it since without him I'd have bought another BOV instead of fixing this one for free
