So after not driving my car for two or three weeks I take it out and got a random misfire code. I've done research and read a lot about the 03s getting it due to clutches or cams being installed but if I understand correctly that's been fixed and not seen for an 06 evo. I do have cosworth m3 cams and an exedy clutch and flywheel. Also have one step colder Denso iridium plugs with less than 7k miles on them and pulled them and they all looked good to me. Was wondering if anyone has any other ideas to point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Intresting, a number 3 misfiring. Go from the easiest fixes/cheapest to the more complicated/expensive. So check 1st your coils, while car is running pull each coil 1 at a time and listen for idle or engine tone to change, if it changes then that particular coil is working, if absolutley no change in tone or idle occurs after a particular coil is removed then that coil if fouled up. Hopefully this helps out in the 1st step

 

What are the spark plug gaps?

 

is the car tuned?
does it run like its misfiring?
if not id have your tuner or you(wichever tuned it) delete the code if not

 

Well if it is random misfires then you can rule out several things. I also agree to check your coils and wires. In addition check the gaps on the plug and see if there is slack in your timing belt.

 

I have checked the plugs and they are gapped at .25 and they are a nice golden brown. The car is tuned and it does not feel like it is misfiring. I have deleted the code but it doesnt take to long for it to come back, usually withing 30 minutes or so. I have thought about disabling but not sure I am able to do it myself. The only software I have played around with is evo scan.

 

i rarely see evo9's having phantom misfire code compared to 03's being more common issue. this code on an evo9 probably means a real misfire hehe. maybe its just bad gas that accumulated abit of water? i dont know try fresh gas and/or fresh sparkplugs.
