Newb seeks explanation of DSM
Most people hate to be labeled as a newbie... but I cant avoid it. I am a newbie.
That's why I need your help. I have been doing some research on DSM because that acronym is new to me...
...Diamond-Star Motors. Got it. Here's what I found out...
"Initially Diamond-Star Motors was a 50-50 joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi. However, in 1991 the Japanese company purchased its partner's equity stake, and thereafter the manufacture of Chrysler vehicles was on a contractual basis. Chrysler sold its equity stake to Mitsubishi in 1993, and Diamond-Star Motors was renamed to Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturing America (MMMA) on July 1, 1995. Despite the departure, the two companies have maintained various co-operative manufacturing agreements since.
Currently the plant produces vehicles using the American-developed Mitsubishi PS platform, including the current Endeavor, Galant, and Eclipse, and exports to 26 countries worldwide."
Every website I went to describes the same thing... with no mention of EVOs. So... why do people call their EVOs "DSM?"
I apologize in advance for such a newb question!!!

Cause they don't know the true meaning of DSM. Same guys who call GVR4's dsms call Evo's dsms. It's easier for them I guess. Like when you come along those DSM owners that say their car is JDM because they don't know the cars were built in Normal, IL.
But yeah cause they have the same motor.

Thanks, everyone. I thought I was going crazy about this! I was at the track and saw an EVO with a sticker that said DSM... thats what started my research... then, on here, there are Evo owners that their profile says they drive a DSM EVO... ok... i think I am at peace, now! LoL

DSM = poorly designed car with great engine and drive train.
EVO = fantastically designed car with great engine and drive train.
Lol I've owned both so this is based on my opinion. I loved my 93 talon, it was a cool car. But the differnce in an 11 sec Dsm and an 11 sec Evo is worlds apart. Evos are so much more awesome on every level.

Meh, Evo's will be just as unreliable when theyre 10+ years old. They have newer manufacturing practices so of course fit will be better. Thats just natural progression..
Evo a DSM? No, but technically a 2g isnt a DSM either. And some of the older Avengers (IIRC, might have been a different Chrysler) actually had "DSM" stickers on the either the firewall or door frame. Again, this is all dusty memory so details are a bit fuzzy.
