I'm running the VR1 as well. Good oil, but I have had nothing but good out of Amsoil in the past. VR1 is more available than Amsoil here. I was looking at the Dominator Series for my next oil. Maybe order a case. It is on the FP's list as well

STOP SPREADING INCORRECT INFORMATION !

MOBIL 1 10w-30 is FINE for the FP Green.

I have spoken to Robert (FP's owner) at length about this and there are several detailed threads (started by TedB) that go into the details about oils and the Green, Red, and Black. The Red and Black are the turbos that seem to want an oil with a higher ZDDP content due to the bearing metals.

Do a simple search and you can read all you need to know on the subject....

That document and list is for FP Reds and Blacks, not Greens and Whites. TedB's post documents the facts per our discussions with Robert.

If you don't believe me, then just call Robert at FP.

You have a nice Car and a nice FP Turbocharger.

Why use off the shelf oils like Mobil 1, when you have an oil like Amsoil avaliable that is proven to be better for our Hi HP Cars using Hi Revs Modified Turbos?

For just a stock IX with my minor mods (in sig) should I stick with M1 5-30 in michigan winter? I'm due for a change soon and need to make up my mind about what to use.

I want something easy to obtain off the shelf if at all possible. I seem to hear about Amsoil as well in the "Mobile 1 ruins journal" thread. I can't seem to figure out what to use. I keep searching and find conflicting information.

For winter should I move to a 10w-30? Someone said to go to a 40 if I beat on it much? I'm just confused. Amsoil off the shelf has the better ZDDP correct? I'm leaning towards that instead of M1 next time....

Its funny. When this memo from FP came out I though it only said FP red and FP blacks needed the better oils but now it clearly reads for any FP high output stock appearing turbo. It could be the safer thing to do anyway.

I was under the impression that all new cover design FP stock appearing have the similar metal bearing and shaft, hence requiring a high zinc and phos oil

I just recently started using amsoil but not long enough to give a or but i can tell you its the closest thing to off the shelf (as in accessibility) as you can get. They have distributors everywhere. Took a day to get to my house.

I have to agree with you, with all the information and opinions out there. Choosing your oil isn't easy.

FP and many other shops in here have given people the choices based on their thousands of hours of testing,,,, i would say 80% of shops using AMSOIL and, Brand Penn the reason they use Brad penn is because its high contents of zddp and low cost so they can dump it after every track pass.
but because of some folks in these threads that continue to fill up the threads with empty rhetoric its becoming harder for folks to make educated decisions.

I have always believed in facts and data i dont tolerate opinions and empty rhetoric,,, give me data , charts, stats,, and that what we have done, FP has done and other shops.

Tommi is doing a great job here in forums he actually is testing oil and sharing with the community,, i am sure he will have charted data and not opinions.

its like david buschur,, he has spent more man hours that most shops around testing on his own dyno using his own money to prove not only his parts but combinations,,, he did this for years but the guys with opinions always would come in and say that cant be because i dont THINK is posible instead of i have tested something and i can PROVE it doesnt work.

right know there is a rampage of threads with a selected few that dont belived that off the shelfs oils have revampped their oil to meet knew specs, what they dont understand is all the new API, GM oil specs are there to meet new Gov regs, off the shelf oil MUST have less of those additives that are good for friction modifying the internal parts,,,

I say use Brad Penn oil in whichever weight would be recommended for your particular situation. It's green, which is baller, and FP seems to have good feelings about it as well.

Check out what happens to brad penn , the oil not being a synthetic has many disavantages for you guys who daily drive your cars,,, i can see this oil being great in a car that dumps their oil very often.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ned-jello.html

even brad penn said do not use our oils when running ethanol, and i think 99% of fuel today has ethanol in it.

use premium synthetics and you dont have to worry about reliability in long range of time, specially for guys who still have stock engines
