ya it will heat up faster however I keep 20w50 in my car year round. I would run 5w30 all year on the stoker unless you are constant sub freezing.

So you suggest 5w30 over 10w30 on a basically stock motor, all year round huh?

i dont let it warm up at all.... it takes me few minutes to get out of my multi-level garage and out of the apartment complex, where i cant go past 10 mph anyhow so my RPM stays below 2k. by the time i cleared it all, engine is half warmed so take it easy for another few minutes, np.

yeah i dont think warming the car up is a fantastic thing to do; you are letting the engine warm up but trans and tcase oil which you still freezing cold. over the years i realized in NJ, theres no need to warm up the car at all even at 20 degrees F. just start the car, give the engine 10 seconds to settle down then go (but granny slow for first 5 minutes).

Well i have heard mixed things on heating the car when cold...

The only one i can make sense is wait some 10-30 seconds when you start the engine to let the oil moved around the engine.

Personally i let car warm up a lil

In both winter and summer months I let it warm up until its at normal operating temps. I read somewhere its not good to start it up and drive espesially with cams so I warm it up regardless and no problems yet and the oil looks brand new at the oil changes.

Yea when I first read it I noticed the references they used to get their info wasnt making much sense to me. I'm far from a know it all in the car world but i've worked on and been messing with cars my whole life and I know you need certain amounts of heat in the motor for it to operate properly. Just wanted to get some of you guys perspective as I'm new to evo's for the most part, and don't wanna hurt nothin.

I have to let mine warm up in the winter... usually 5mins to get to the line at the bottom of the temperature gauge. The other thing is that my car HATES 2nd gear when its cold so I tend to shift from 1st directly to 3rd and only downshift to 2nd if needed for the first few miles.

def let it warm up... driving the car cold aint good for the engine at all.
I usually give my car about 5 minutes in winter weather -10 to -15c in the morning.
