how many horses are too much for a daily driver

Exactly, my evo 8 turbo spooled way too fast. I agree that a little lag will help thats why I am currently going to be getting an FP Red. I mean you have to go beyond granny mode for that sucker to not want to spool up. Most people are right on their answers, you will be completely happy with a DD around 350-450 HP, down here in Louisiana where I live we dont have a lot of car with these HP numbers so my buddies and I dominate the streets here. My 540AWHP GSX absolutely destroyed everything here.

700-750 is the sweet spot.. once you go over that range you start to run into allot of issues that will make the car not as reliable any more.. this is of course talking about a true daily driver.. something you can take the wife and kids in and not have to worry about anything...

Daily driveability and power is all about torque, not hp. All this lag talk refers to torque management, not hp. That said, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow and it's a pain to throttle back because your turbo just kicked you in the pants and you find yourself going 2x the speed of the car 20 feet in front of you.
Figure out if you want big torque down low which you'll have to actively manage or you want to be able to drive 'normally' but with a little extra right foot pressure and RPMs, activate some fresh power.
My DD has 700lbft torque at under 900 RPM and I have to be very careful I don't mate with the car in front of me sometimes (thank goodness for 6 pots on occasion). Fortunately she is tuned to be smoothe unless my TPS tells her it's time to boogie.

I relate this issue to riding a motorbike I used to ride 1000cc and over time i realized that i would never tap the bike's full potential so I downsized to a 600cc and guess what.....over time i realized that it's not the size or horsepower that matters because either size will get you in trouble.....so with our cars, stock or modded it will get you in trouble regardless. As far as reliability well if you drive like an *** then you will break things stock or not.

Get a pump gas map and a race gas map! That simple! I've had 1000hp skyline on race and 700 on pump that was dailyed everyday, I have a supra with 1000 on e85 that I drive once or twice a week and I daily my evo with 648 on pump! All get great gas mileage! Find a good tuner and build cars to your driving style. You'll love it!
