I bought an EVO8

This guy does not sound like he has any idea what he got himself into. Im sorry, but if you own 2 Porsche 914's, you CANNOT complain about any of the EVO's traits. The 914 was seriously one of the worst "performance" cars to come out of Germany. Honestly, do you really own an EVO??? LOL

Gee guys, take a look at the porsche club racing events, what's the hot setup? the 914's.
Talk about an unwashed heathens (Tristar Racing and DynoKing). Know before you speak....
$1000 in suspension mods and tires, it will pull over 1g in the corners. and turn faster lap times than a $40k boxter with a stock 1.8 motor....
Enough about the pcars. I know them, you don't.
YES I DO own an EVO.
No the Audi's ABS does not go on on the same roads and same speeds.

Im not talking about racing. Did you refer to your EVO in race trim? No, lets compare apples to apples here. The Porshe 914 with their VW derived engines were crap boxes, and the only refuge they have found since the 70's is people who use them strictly for a track or autocross car.
It seems to me that someone who races 914s wouldnt nag about the issues you have with the EVO, but I guess Im wrong. By the way, only "unwashed heathens" would complain about ABS pulsing and lack or traction from an EVO sporting stock A046's in THE WINTER............lol
By the way, Im not wanting this to turn into an arguement, just a conversation. No ill will is meant....

You have to admit, though, that the 914 is a pretty good platform for a track car. He never compared his Evo to his 914 (that was done only by Tristar and Dynoking) and, even if he had, I"m sure that he would find his modified 914 to be superior to the Evo for the kind of events that he races. Stock vs. Modded is not a good comparison as we all know.
The Evo is not a car for everyone, which is something else that we all know by now, so why do some people get so defensive of the car when someone says that they don't like it for a few valid reasons (rattles and squeaks, seeming lack of low and top end power)? I don't think he was complaining about the ABS pulsing, he was just saying that even with it pulsing the car didn't stop as quickly as his older Audi with bald tires (which would actually help the car stop under certain conditions, but it doesn't sound like it's being used in those conditions if the Evo's ABS is going off). To resort to personal attacks like DynoKing did is uncalled for, especially in the Newbie forum. The guy is questioning whether or not the Evo is for him and the general consensus is no, that he should dump the Evo and get a different car that will better suit his needs.
The Newbie forum is where newbs who don't know a lot about the car come to learn basic knowledge and ask basic questions that might get them flamed elsewhere, and this is the place that give many of them their first impressions of the forum. Skimming through threads and finding that anyone who questions the "clear superiority" of the Evo over almost any other car, even if it's just implied by one's owning another car that they see as "inferior" and, at the same time, not being as satisfied with the Evo, is flamed and insulted will leave them with a false impression of evom.net as a whole, because most of the board is not like this. Many boards have rules against flaming and against posting anything directly argumentative in the Newbie forum. After being on lancerforums.com and evom.net for a few years I had the impression that the general population of this board was mature enough and had enough of a sense of community that things like this could be avoided here. People cared about and talked about cars and didn't waste as much time blasting each other verbally. In the past few months since the Evo has come out in the US, things have slowly been changing however, and maybe it's time that Evom take steps to stem the growing flood of immaturity and hostility that is slowly changing the character of the board.
That last part was directed at no one in particular, so don't feel as if I was talking directly to you and get all upset about it and feel you have to defend your ever-important eRep by flaming me here. This part, however, is directed toward those who have been hostile to MI_Evo8's honest opinions: Take the flaming to OT if you must, don't detract from an informative conversation with a newbie by bringing it here. He obviously doesn't know what he got himself in to, and insulting him isn't going to help educate him on the car that he now has. He didn't insult anyone personally, he didn't go out and kill anyone's family, he didn't speed down the street and hit anyone's pet dog, so no one has any reason to say anything hostile to him, espcially when it isn't going to help him learn about the Evo. The car isn't perfect, it has it's faults, and many people are willing to overlook them for the sake of it's performance and potential. MI_Evo8, however, is not, which is completely understandable, so answer his questions and keep it civil or leave this thread alone.

just my opinion but he came on here and started saying that his Evo was inferior to his 200k mile audi in pretty much everyway. if he just wanted information that is all fine and good, however, it was completely uneccesary for him to complain about how the evo doesn't come with "bun warmers" like his ungodly wonderful audi with bald tires... i mean and even if the evo is so bad then he should be mad at himself for buying it... it seems like he wants to pass the blame off on to everyone who has said good things about the car and the people who made him think the evo was a "rally car" which he obviously doesn't think.

Well put PoorCollegeKid.
The brake issue was taken care of. A combination of taking it into the dealer and finding a problem with one of the ABS sensors.
I'm sure that replacing tires would help the traction problem as I read further in the board about the stock tires.
The Evo is not an inferior car, just quite a bit different than the old audi. If you put it in compairson it was a $38,000 car back in 1989 which would be about $80k now.
The main difference on snow is the fixed center differential rather than a tor-sen diff which self adjusts and the wider tires that seem to act as pontoons.
Are there narrower rims available for the EVO for snow tires?
$28,000 FOB Auburn Hills, MI. 2,300 miles.

MI_EVO8, sorry to hear about the bad feelings. I went thru an "un-happy with my evo" point at around 2K as well. I have 7K now and I am pretty happy.
Here's a couple things to think about:
1) This motor doesn't break-in well until after 3.5-4K. Many on the board have comments about the car feeling stronger after that point.
2) This is a car you have to learn how to drive. It seems like you have some experience with cars that may have that trait as well. Once you learn how to better match yourself with the power band, some of those feelings will go away. It's similar to the problem that a S2000 owner has(but not as bad)--you have to know how to get the power out of the motor. The new S4 would be simpler at this given the power via displacement approach. Learn the motor before you dump it.
3) Snows or UHP All Seasons are a must. Living in Michigan, that should be pretty straight forward.
4) There are many simple low cost mods to address the power loss after the boost spike. Many things can be done from a MBC to a ECU reflash similar to what you had for your Audi.
Stick with it and you and your car may find the right fit.
Best of luck!
