About to buy an evo 8
Hi guys, is everything going fine?
I want to buy an evo but my budget is tight so please help me out.
Is it fine for me to buy an evo for daily use while i'm at still in college or would it be a bad idea? Is it reliable and dependable, would it break on me even if i buy a good used one? My driving could be really hard on the gas for a short period of time sometimes. Probably 4 to 5 times a week. Would you consider purchasing evo 8 that is in the 60- to 70k mile zone? What things to look for when someone is buying an evo? Sorry for all the questions, I really don't know, so i really appreciate the help. Thanks.

The owner. The owner of the car will tell you a lot. Like if they had professional work done to it and saved receipts..... if any mods did they use quality parts or ebay crap......clutch age....and lastly the 60k service. If you are going to buy one in the 60-70k range having the 60k service done can be costly. So buying one that has had all that done will save you $

I used my evo for college and it has been very reliable. Not a single problem besides drinking too much gas because staying in boost is so much fun. It has 70k miles btw, but all maintenance was done when I bought it.
One problem with the evo is that it attracts too many dudes. I get guys coming up to me at school and asking me about the car. I even get the car club guys telling me to go to their meets.
It is definitely not a chick magnet. If you want to attract girls, get a G35 coupe. Trust me I had one before and girls love riding in it.
Good luck on your search and take your time looking for one that fits you best.

IMHO, yes, it would be a bad idea if no one was supporting you and if money is tight while going to college. You would have to be making 2-3 times more than the payments on the car. Like if your payments are $650, you have to at least be making $1300+ to be able to mod it, fix it here and there (I can already tell you all used cars will need something) and pay other bills you have like phone bills.
I knew 2 guys that bought an Evo and sold it within 6 months because of high payments. One guy's payment was $650 w/ insurance and quickly grew after acquiring speeding tickets with the car. It also didn't help he was a gambling addict and he was still in college so with stress from the payments, he started doing poorly in school. Other guy worked at a factory. His payments were also $650 a month and he made maybe $1200-$1400 a month. With other bills in his life and needing to move out, the car was just too much and didn't become fun because he couldn't mod it.
I can tell you not to get one yet but like what I said to my 2 friends, I don't control what you do. Do what you want but at least read the story of my friends' experience with payments and such.

I think some people already spoke about the main concern. It's really not about buying the car, thats the easy part. Its the consideration for insurance, and maintenance that may put you over the top. Consider the cost of car payment and insurance, and then add a $300 on top, per month for "oh ****" savings. Can you afford that on a monthly basis, without effects to your normal lifestyle. If it does, you should prolly save the money and wait a bit longer.

Dont do it.......you have enough things to worry about while in college. You dont want to have to drop out to get a job to support you car. Be patient and you wont regret it just wait till you graduate and get a real job.
