Evo 7 with tow bar

Hi I am currently looking at getting my first evo and have found one that I am in the process of negotiating to buy. But it has a tow bar fitted... This kinda worries me what towing would do to an evo. The owner says the owner before him put it on to tow his jet ski every now and then but I am asking for opinions as to what this could have possibly strained on the car. Also the gearbox has just been rebuilt, new clutch, centre diff rebuilt and suspension has been rebuilt. It is unmodified and on 80,000ks. Sorry if i am wasting your time but as I don't know all that much about them and this kind of money to a 19 year old is a pretty serious investment! Thanks in advance, Cam

Im 19 too homie and 15-20 grand is definitely a real risk dont rush it, thats where you are going to start getting into trouble. From the sound of it I would be a little more patient and find one that doesn't have so much or anything rebuilt at all, even if its ganna run you a little bit more it will pay off in the long run.

I can't see how the tow bar could be an issue, if anything I'd probably buy one because it has a tow bar. The fact those items have been rebuilt doesn't mean much, as long as there is proof its been done, then you should be fine.

Im pretty sure it says in the handbook not to use the Evo for towing... Even if it is capable... At the end of the day, jet ski's don't weight too much.

Yea I thought there must have been something like that but aslong as its just a jet ski and apparently he wasnt doing it often, it doesnt really bother me. Ill just remove it as soon as I get it because its crazy ugly

You will never know if it was just a jet ski... That would have probably been the main purpose of him getting one fitted, but he could have towed anything! I really wouldn't worry too much about it.

Having a tow bar and jet ski kind of gives me the impression that the previous owner wasn't using this car for a thrash box. It could likely be in better condition than a lot of other 7s. Just my thought.

Where are you buying it from? A dealer or private sale?

Private sale, although he has had an offer from fast4s dealer in auckland. Yea thats another point. He claims that he takes it for warrants etc and always gets comments that its good to see an evo that hasnt been thrashed but Iv booked an aa check before I hand over the cash so if there is anything wrong hopefully they pick it up
