Wise first car decision?

Wise first car decision?
A little bit about me; I'm 15 turning 16 in June and GETTING my licence as soon as I can. I'm following through with a deal for a roller and I'll fix it up. I've got about a year to get it running. I'm not power crazy, handling is most important to me. I'm not a mechanic, nor am I in training to be. I'm rather smart though (graduating with honors in 3 years). Cars have been part of my life since day 1. The evolution has been my dream car since I was about 3 feet tall.
So am I as smart as I think I am, was this wise?

What's the issue with the roller? Blown motor? How long has it been sitting?
Evo are expensive *****es... Specially if you getting roller and not knowing what is wrong with it.
Does it have a transfer case/trans/ rear diff?
How's the suspension? It's really tough when you can't drive it.
I saw some buy a roller and it was nightmare.
Hope your ready for a challenge

Hope you have been saving your allowance since you were 3ft tall as well. Evo's are extremely expensive to maintain. Fixing up a roller can cost more then buying a running car. Most do it because they plan to build the engine/trans etc and turn them into race cars. Hope your parents are willing to pay the insurance for you cause that has to be expensive for a 16yr old as well. What is the issue with the car you bought? I am a bit jealous though, my first car was an '88 escort 5spd. lol

It has transmission and tcase, hasn't been sitting long. The guy I'm buying from sold the motor and there is nothing majorly wrong with the shell. The suspension I have no clue about yet, and won't know until i get it. I'm ready for the challenge; and I had the money for some nice cars that ran but none of them were .

Evo is a terrible first car for numerous reasons. Get something cheap and simple and worry about becoming an experienced driver first. Yes, every teenager thinks they're an awesome driver because they drove a go-kart blah blah blah but you're not. You will be a danger to yourself and to others behind the wheel of an Evo. If you insist on a performance car, get yourself a Civic Si or Mazdaspeed to start off with.

I would say no. I'm 24 and just bought the evo. I would go to school and focus on that before anything. I'm lucky that at 24 I have a great job because I wouldn't be able to afford it any other way. They are very expensive. Also, you have no driving experience (from what I read) and my humble opinion is you should get a couple years of experience driving before you put yourself in a car like the evo. Get a beater, go to school and wait until you can afford it. You are able to get the roller now but what happens when you need to buy parts? I would hold off and wait. You're only going on 16. You have many years ahead of you to be able to get your dream car and you'll have something to look forward to. Save up your money and wait.

getting a working evo as a first car is a terrible idea.
Getting a rolling chassis as a first car is an even worse idea.
Do yourself a favor and get rid of that crap before you spend anymore money. Then find an old DSM ecllipse or eagle talon and make sure it has AWD. This will let you learn how to drive a turbo AWD platform without 80% of the costs of maintaining an evo.
Once you get out of college, then build your dream evo... Until then you need to get your priorities straight.
