Z06 owner soon to have an EVO
I have been thinking about buying an evo and looking on this forum for some time so I figured why not finally sign up and start posting maybe gather some information.
I currently own a 2004 Z06 soon to be twin turbo so the main reason for me buying an EVO is as a second fun car and huge improvement on my non fun POS daily driver mazda. Shoot me some advice guys or feel free to ask questions.

Are you looking for a 8,9 or a 10? IMO the 8/9 aren't the greatest daily drivers but its not too bad i guess. The 10 is more refined and better suited for dd duties. Be careful with the mod bug, soon the evo will be faster than your vette!

I have no doubt an evo can be made faster but not my Evo.
I'm really leaning towards a 9 I just want a fun not too expensive daily driver definitely not a 10 even though that would be so much easier for me to find. Any useful buying tips?

I can find the Xs very cheap and I can find them with ease but that's not what I want.
I still don't understand why some of the 9s are so expensive I mean even and MR was 33k brand new I would imagine after 6 years they would come down to the low 20s even with low miles.

The 9 is the most desirable evo brought stateside, that's why they still pull big money. They only made them for 1 year as well so there are probably less than 5k still around in the U.S. Of that, 4k of them are probably beat/modded to high hell.

The 9 will become mitsubishis supra. Just forever retaining its value.

I prefer the Viii as a track monster since there's no acd to go wrong, simpler is better sometimes. I have an 8 with a 9 turbo, 9 trans with 8 4th gear, 9 motor and 8 tcase I think I have the best of both worlds.

Guys I am looking more for a nice daily driven car that I can take to the drag strip and road course occasionally. Would ultimately like to make the car close to 450-500whp on pump within the limit of the stock engine. Which car is better for my situation the 8 or 9? I like the looks of the 9 better too so keep that in mind.
Also how important is miles and number of owners?

At that power level you are talking about a big turbo and full bolt ons so any advantage the 9 has over the 8 is out the window powe wise IMO.
The 5 speed trans in the 8 is stronger and the ACD is the active center differential. Which can transfer different levels of power to the front/ rear wheels depending on what mode you are in. Not really needed and is very spendy to repair.
To hold up to the abuse you will need a twin disc clutch for sure which is kind of a pain to daily drive with the big cams. A 500 whp vette is probably more streetable than a 500 whp evo.

Is there any difference in handling between the 2 cars? how much better are the bbs wheels on the 9 MR? Is the MIVEC really worth it at 400+whp?
