New Member! Salvage Title Questions
Hey everyone, great to join the evo community! I have a few questions, I am looking to get an 03 evo with a salvage title. Seller has all receipts and it seems that it was properly repaired. So here are my questions.
1. How much does the value of the car go down? Like what would the range be for a good price for this car with a salvage title?
2. What would it do to my insurance? Would it be cheaper than having an evo with a clean title?
Thanks.

1. 60% is a good baseline. all depends why it's salvage. stolen and stripped? safest car to buy in terms of issues / frame damage. wrecked? depends on the damage. airbags? i'd stay away from. flood/fire? i'd stay away from. just remember it will always be worth less than a clean title, so think down the road when you have to sell
2. call your insurance. this isn't a question for the internet
all-in-all, a clean title is going to be easier to buy, and easier to sell

I'm sure it's probably similar else where but in NY to register a salvage vehicle you need to make an appointment with the DMV which goes through the whole car and checks vins on every part . If they all match they ok it and you can register it. During my inspection some guy was next to me and an inspector found that the air bag wasn't from the car and he failed the inspection . If the vin doesn't match for the part you need to have proof if where you bought it . Ohhh and I waited like 2 months for the inspection . It was such a headache !!!
As for the insurance the salvage title didnt effect the price . Hope that helped .

Whats the mileage? Did it have a frame damage? A fellow memeber from socalevo.net Evoruff had purchased a shell salvage. Body looked clean straight as an arrow but when he started to build it for track the cage specialist said frame is tweaked so he ended parting it out and bought a clean title. Make sure you check it very well or body shop that did the work. Would hate for a fellow member to buy salvage and finds out bad frame. Salvage theft is all good but crashed im against it.

Information is your friend at this point, if he has paperwork to support his story it's not as random/shady as some guy telling you it was fender bender. Check out the specific area and I would suggest taking it to a shop and having them go over the frame in that area body etc etc etc. For the thousands your going to buy the car for paying someone $100 for their time to just go over a car isnt a bad idea.

Ive seen other cars listed with what they call "light damage" to the front end and then you go in and look at them and the motor is cracked where the mounts or drive shafts meet.
If the insurance company salvaged it with only 20k on the clock it had to have a good amount of damage.

Well now I learned recently with my own car. Some idiots decided to key my car on keying spree. My insurance was ready to total my car. The reason was because it was keyed and the adjuster said the only reason he didn't salvage it was because the scratches weren't deep enough. Some insurance do salvage front end collision Headlights insurance cover 1800 a piece bumper plust paint radiator support, radiator hood etc. The bill goes up. Just for the damages my insurance cough up 8900. So think of how much your paying for the car. If he was the original owner he got paid and now selling high price not that im hating. Take the car to framing shop they can distinguish if frame is tweaked and alighnment. I had to learn the bad way I nearly cried when adjuster said may have to salvage it. Doing that I loose value of my car.

The guy has all paper work for it, seems like a strait shooter, nothing sketchy. And yes I know all about selling it and that I wont get my money back for it.
