Nice purchase! I love VI's. You've come to the right site to learn about your EVO : ) What are your plans for it?

Dude thats a sick find!
Congrats!
I was wondering, did you have to pay a big registration fee since the car is more than 10 years old?

Plans for the time are just general maintenance and to get to know the car. It already has bc coil overs a 3inch exhaust and a couple sets of rims and tires (have to have winter and summer tires here.) and there's not really registration fees here so far I've paid 1500 yen (about $15) to transfer the title and roughly 36,000 yen (about $360) for 3 months of insurance and the guy I bought it from paid the 19000 yen (about $190) for road tax which is I guess like registration kind of.

Are you in Zama or Yokota? Nice car I have always wanted a VI, but I have IX back in the states. FYSA that car can't go back to the US until 2024. I almost purchased a I and a III during my time here in Japan, but I decided to save the money for my IX. BTW JCI is a pain in the A$$, make sure your car is in good shape prior to inspection. If you are looking for parts, and you are having issues with the language barrier use google translate, I speak a little Japanese and read very little kanji, google translate has helped me immensely!

Haha it's all good, Jci is due may next year and I do hear it's a pain in the butt but not to bad. And I'm here accompanied so I've got longer orders so as long as I don't have a short notice pcs I'm not worried about selling the car any time soon haha. It does suck finding forums that are more familiar with the older evos a lot of them are uk based though so not to bad. I hear a lot of 8 and 9 parts will fit on the 6 though.

Check the aussie and kiwi forums as they get a lot of cars we did not in the us {thumbed} . As for common parts between the VI and the VII - IX remember they are different in chassis, but they all retain the 4G63 not the garbage 4b11.

I might be moving to Japan cause of work.
It would be cool to buy a car over there.
Was it hard to find that Lancer Evolution VI?
Nice to know the fees arent so high.
Do you know anything about the car inspections over there?

It wasn't to hard to find but I bought it from some one on base... But depending on where u are moving start looking on http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/ it should be in English... If not there's a button at the top of the pc page that says English. The dealers on there are usually really good and will ship cars too, from what I have heard. And I think any time u buy from a dealer the car will come with 2 years of JCI (Japanese compulsory insurance) basicly a check over of the car making sure it's safe to be drivin. That has to be renewed every two years.

Somewhat easy to come by, though not very common, if you want you can get one.

The inspections are general safety, good running condition, emissions and decibels.

Oh and the fees depend on what plate u have... If u look in my pic I have a 300 plate there are also 400 and 500 range plates... It all depends on how big your vehicle is and how mich fuel it consumes and how big the engine is. And Basicly the smaller the number the more u pay for fees... A co worker has an evo 4 and his is a 500 plate so he pays less for road tax and insurance. Oh and with the insurance because this is considered a sports car u will automatically pay 50% more for insurance as apposed to say a van with the same plate number...
