Thinking of getting evo 8-9 ??

Alright I have a srt4 and I've been down the line with a Sti already and was thinking of getting a evo 8-9 depanding on what I sell the srt4 for . Does anyone know what price range 8-9 go for , I know I'm suppose to make sure the car has only bolt on if that . Is there anything else I should be looking for. I've read all over the Trans is weak or the Trans case or something on that line .

Also hope this post is in the right spot

Depends on what mods it has and how many miles the evo has. Anywhere from like 18k-25k is my guess. Dont get anything with more than bolt-ons and if i were you i would try and get one that wasnt beat on. To avoid that an X would be your best bet.

I dont have an evo8/9, so cant really help you out too much. Yes, the t-case does have problems in our cars, but also depends on how regularly you beat on your car.

Hope that helps man.

Ya it's helpful , I'm up I'm the air for the newer ones (x) plus there expensive . Do they have the same issue the the t-case ? How do u like your x .. Isn't the clutch max out on the 8-9 is that the same with the x gsr . I wish the mr where not auto on the x .

I'm no expert but from what I can tell people seem to think that since it has awd you have to

launch the **** out of it at every stop light and usually thats why the tc or tranny goes bad.

Like any other car, this car can last as long as you want it to depending on how it has been

treated. My 8 has about 115k miles and when I had my tranny rebuilt at 112k the shop said it

really just needed a new 3rd gear and syncro while the tc looked darn good which to be

honest I was surprised because the guy I bought the evo from was a 18 year old punk who

beat it but I knew what I was getting into and I got it dirt cheap. As for 8 vs 9 most people

will tell you the 9 was the best evo ever built, has the mivec bit bigger turbo than the 8 and

seems to be more mod friendly. 9's seem to be going for about 20g while a decent mileage 8

should go about 14-17g. Shop around and if you can drive the different models ie the 03-

04? model evo doesnt have a acd so it will drive a bit differently than an 05 gsr since it does

have the acd. Then you have the 6 speed MR which are geared a bit differently and finally the

06 evo 9 gsr and MR.

.. Ya I never got that while they launch all the time .ya the mr are nice I really wish the inside of the mr was I'm the gsr . Ya I understand I wish more people took care of there cars . For a daily driver doesn't need to be beat to death 24/7. So how's the maintance on the 8 or 9 anything that cost a ton . I've heard that the clutch on the 8 are cheap to fix compared to the x .. Other then the Trans beating anything else go out or to look at ... What about shifting in my Sti the gears felt lose the one evo I drove felt tight .. Also the clutch enaged stupid high is that normal ?

Get the car checked out, compression and leak down.

Take care of it and it should be fine.

Nick you going for 400k haha?

And the X's are good, just don't get a built white X haha, right Nick(Inside Joke). Ankur's bad luck X.

But yea the X's are nice. Not as many T-case problems. As stated before, just dont launch the car and you will be fine with no t-case problems. Just cant go wrong with the 4G63.

I think it's kinda funny that u got awd but u can't launch the car with out possibly breaking something . Ya white is one of nice colors it comes in too . But ya 400 k miles is insane , my price range is most likey going to be in the Evo 8 maybe if I'm lucky 9 . X they want to much at the dealer . I don't understand how back in the day are cars where in the 28 30 range and now 40-50 .

Yes I am, but I just bought a 03 bby with 112k I will be driving and possibly selling.

To the OP, the 8/9 are a great reliable car.
