Oil Change frequency

Oil Change frequency
Im new to the group. I read the theads in this room and did not see any info on this: I Just purchased a 2014 MR. Took it to mitsu dealer (shreveport, la) for my first oil change. Book says synthetic. Mitsu did oil change (synthetic plus "additive") and puts my next oil change after 5K miles. It has been 2K miles and odo reads 5750 and my regular maintenace service light is already coming on. Oil level good. I assume 5K was good coming from a mitsu dealer service. Book says every 3K. I called mitsu in plano where I purchased the car. They said every 3K and use regular oil ("does not require synthetic"). Im confused. My first concern is my warranty and my extended warranty. Next of course is the possible adverse effects on my car. Any feedback, suggestions, or advice? I surely would appreciate it.
Thanks.

OP...I would change every 3k with synthetic unless you drive the car hard often. Then you may want to change even more frequently. If the car is stock and you hardly ever get on it, you may be able to push it to 5k miles.

The service reminder is just a timer, the dealer probably forgot to reset it with your last oil change. All Evos came with and require synthetic oil regardless of what your dealership says; the Mobil 1 stickers have disappeared from the engine covers though.
I change my oil every 4-5k miles with Mobil 1 10W-30 EP; if I didn't have an aftermarket turbo I wouldn't bother with the Extended Protection stuff.

I've got a 14 GSR arriving in the next couple of days and I've read about the conventional oil coming from the factory. Crazy! Why the switch Mitsu? I called my local Mitsu dealer and they said they are supposed to fill with conventional oil. I picked up some Pennzoil ultra 5w-30 and will switch when it arrives. I plan to change every 3000 miles.

Synthetic oils will never seal the rings in properly.
Thats why when we rebuild engines, its always first load of oil as a conventional break in to seal rings.
But the dealer is stupid to say thats what you should use since after the first 1,000 miles your rings are pretty much seated.
