Satan Says...Dealing with your dealership

Satan Says...Dealing with your dealership
I hear that a lot of you guys are having problems with dealing with your dealerships. Now, this may stem from several reasons, both your fault and theirs.
Want to know if your modification will end you up in trouble with your dealership? ASK THEM!! If people install aftermarket springs in their lancer, we've got no problems with that. If they blow a shock, we won't replace it (2" drop is not shock friendly...although apparently, lancer shocks are quite good--no local problems yet). If a particular dealer won't service a modified car--SHOP AROUND. Find out if someone else will. Seriously. Some service advisers will, and some won't, and if you have the option locally, find one that will. Canada especially--with the fact that Mitsu has just started up, they'll be looking to get as much of the local customer base as they can--keep that in mind!!
Also, as to why some Mitsubishi Dealers are skittish about warantee claims. See, here's the deal. Dealers actually get paid MORE for doing warantee claim work than they do normal work--even for the same job. They get paid a higher hourly rate, and paid for more hours (or portions thereof). The problem is, unlike with normal work, there's nobody there to immediately sign off on stuff. Every month, at some point, the district manager will come cruising around, and take a look at the past month's warantee jobs. Now, most of these things are routine. Hose tears, brakes aren't seated properly, a problem that has a TSB, no biggie. But here's the kicker. If anything gets questioned, the DM will take a look at the replaced part (dealerships are required to keep them on hand until the DM comes around) and decide whether or not it should have been covered. Now, for you EVO guys, any clutch work over $500 has to get inspected before it's approved. This is why dealerships are so skittish over clutch warantee work--because if they do it, and it doesn't get approved, they have to eat the cost. The part, the labour hours, whatever. And especially up here, they can't afford to just throw away money like that. If you have a warantee problem, work WITH your dealership to get it resolved, not against. They're just looking to make sure they get compensated. It's not that they want to **** you off (quite the opposite--the customer is the #1 priority), it's just that they have to cover their own asses--because Mitsubishi corporate hates to spend money it doesn't have to. No company likes spending money it doesn't have to. That's why there's no recall on the STi detonation, or the 2G CW, or any other highly documented non-safety problem.

Thanks for the heads up Graeme. It's always good to know how the dealership is thinking. It's just unfortunate that the car enthusiasts and the dealerships can't seem to see eye to eye on many topics.

Myfirstnewcar, manuals can be ordered, when I get to work tomorrow, I'll post up the part #s and list prices (in CAD, just convert to USD, and that should be their list price too--we adjust monthly so that the values are the same)
Crzylizard, mchowster is in Toronto, and not affected by the Mugnussen/Moss act, and so his question is quite valid here.
Mchowster, no, they will not. An OZ body kit, however, may require drilling of holes for fitment (honestly, I'm not entirely sure) and so if you tried to get a corrosion warantee claim on any area that had been drilled for a kit, your claim would be denied.

Graeme, my clutch has been acting up and i noticed the clutch/brake fluid has been decreasing.... so i added some more new fluid to the reservoir and it worked for a night and now it is going down again.... will mitsubishi fix this problem whatever it may be or will they say that its related to a maintenance issue with the cluth and they wont cover it?
