Potential newb from SC
Hey guys! Thought I'd drop in and introduce myself. My name is John and I work as a machinist/machine operator.. i live in greenwood,sc but work in Greenville, sc. I have loved the Evo for quite some time but never had a chance to purchase one until now. I was very active in the SRT4 community for years. I still own 1 that I drive occasionally. This makes my 7th SRT (6 neons and a caliber)... got out of the car scene around 2012-13ish as I got heavy into Grudge bike racing. Currently own a 300whp Zx10. That I will be trying to sell or trade to get into an evo.
Currently I have my eye on an 03 w/ 130k... I've started trying to google and get some info before I buy. So I figured I would come sign up here as I know from my SRT days the forums can be very herlpful at times.
Look forward to getting to meet some of the local guys

One question I have is looking at the 8, there are a few differences between the 03 and 05... performance wise is there a noticeable difference in between the two? I know the turbo has a bigger housing on the 05. Realistically I'm looking to be around 400whp as a dad/weekend car

You can get to 400whp on the 9 (with E85) but cant get to 400 on the stock 8
My 9 is at 400 Dynojet HP running E85 (stock turbo, stock cams)

Thanks for the quick reply... my best bet is just wait it out and add a few more pennies and try to pick up a 9 then... all these vids I've been watching has me itching more and more. This much money though I really rather get exactly what I want to start with rather than impulse buy

Being patient is soooo hard! I can probably pick up an 03 with 132k that's not too far from me this weekend or next, but I'm trying to hold out for a 9. Just can't seem to find one anywhere close to me that I'm looking for

Well I'm officially an evo owner. Went and picked up an 03 yesterday! After the 3 hour drive back I'm finally getting the hang of it lmbo. Took me a min to get used to how close the gears are. When I test drive the car I went 1-2-1 like three times making me look like I never drove a manual car... now I got it tho. So far I'm super happy!! Car seems to pull hard and it's funny watching all the people stare at the car and how they like it or want an evo too

Welcome to the group, congratulations on your purchase, and you can always just get a 9 turbo and swap it on to meet your goal.
Again congratulations and welcome.

As for the turbo, I just ordered the new one which will be a while before it goes on. I got with a local tuner who does time attack with his personal evo and seems to know his stuff. We have a game plan for the car. It's just a matter of getting the supporting mods. Now I need to get my post count up so I can hopefully get some of the parts off the forums
