Turning Radius??

finally got to test drive the Evo tonight. basically, i LOVED it with one exception: the ungodly turning radius! i had to back up once just to park it in the space. the stupid salesman said "well, you can't have a car that handles good without a big turning radius." lol.

anyway, does the Sti have the same "problem"? do you eventually get used to it?

Thanks!

Its really not a problem. I think the quik steering is one area where the EVO really outshines the STI. Yes the turning radius is a bit less than the Subie, but we also get wider tires. Believe me its worth the sacrifice, if you could even call it that. You wouldnt notice it after a days worth of driving.

I learned to drive around it and it's not so bad. The quick ratio steering normally evens it out, because even though it doesn't turn as far, it gets to the limit quicker. You never have to turn the steering wheel more than once if you are going straight, so just crank once fast and it's done. However, forget about U-turns, and as far as parking lots go, I park very far away from cars and take up 2 spots so I don't get body/paint damage. I avoid tight parking spots like the plague.

Well coming from the S2000, which has a very small turning radius, I noticed it right away and still do but the car has so many other strong points that I cant really complain to much about it.

I noticed this right away, as I now have to think harder when I'm groggy getting to work in the parking garage. Before (Tiburon), whip it around in there, between poles, no problem. Now, I have to take everything nice and wide. annoying, but heck, I'm parking not doing the slalom.

My friend gave me some grief the other day about the bad turning radius and I fired back "yeah, but it can hold this radius at 60 mph!" Try that in your Focus

I think the fact that I no longer have to slow down for any sort of turn outweighs an extra maneuver to park the car

Yeah, that is a *****, but I wouldn't trade this car for anything. Crowded parking lots are always crappy driving in any car, unless you are auto-xing of course!

Actually...I thought the EVO is a lot better because I had a 95 eclipse and it way worst.

With liberal use of the throttle, I thought the turning radius was quite tight

The Evo does have a turning radius similar to a W900L Kenworth . But Hell I can easily live with that, for all the other great assets it has.

The key is: it has a big turning radius only when going slow.
Try making a 40 mph right turn in any other oem car.
