Evo8 windshield

I've got a nasty crack on my front windshield, so it's time for a replacement.

I remember reading somewhere that the glass on the Evos are thinner than regular cars - but against which cars they are comparing to, I'm not sure.

Does anyone know if the Evo front windshield is the same as a regular Lancer?

On that thought, should I bring my car for a replacement windshield at a glass specialist - and risk putting on a heavier, non-OE spec glass, or bring it back to the dealer?

Advice & thoughts appreciated.
Thanks!

Actually I think that's the side glass.. I'm fairly certain the windshield is pretty much the same thing as the lancer.. Its a DOT legality thing..

Funny you mention it though, I JUST got a stone crack on my windshield today.. I hate the route I take to work, nothing but trucks and crap falling off them.. dented my hood with a stone and it hit my windshield..

Price difference from the dealer or an aftermarket place? With all the DOT specs windshields have to meet I doubt there is much if any difference between the two.

once again these threads arise and rumors are believed beyond comparison..

the part number system that we (auto glass companies/manufacturers/distributors) use list just the Lancer right now... i tried 2 weeks ago to see if the parts for my Evo were the same as a US Lancer.. it seems as though that you cannot get Evo specific parts right now..
although i'm sure that someone has had their windshield changed before, our computer systems do not list an Evo (03 or 04) yet... what we would do is order a Lancer windshield and "dry set" it to see if it would work (which i'm sure it would)... if it does not work then the only other place to get it would be the dealer... your talking about an insane mark up on glass from a dealer (it's like buying Spoon Mugen Nismo or Ralliart parts)...

as far as the door glasses go, we changed a door glass on a US lancer the other day and from the looks of it, it is the same thickness and size... i didn't take my door glass out to compare, but if it was off by 1/8 i would be able to tell... so that pretty much throws out the weight issue...

you can get aftermarket windshields that are NOT approved by manufacturers.. they may be DOT approved, but how does that compare to a car thats built in another country? i would want a glass that is approved by everybody!! these type of options are available to the customer upon arrival.. although the majority of people on the roads just want to pass inspection and don't want it to leak.. we occasionally get the customer who prefers one brand over another, that is no problem, but there could be a price difference (as with everything)

if anyone has any questions about automotive glass or marine, please PM me or AIM me @ *******..

I had my windshield replaced a month back. I've never paid close attention to a regular lancer windshield so I'm not sure if it's the same as a lancer or not. But it's the exact same fitment wise and everything on the replacement one was the same as the original one on the car...like the spot where the rear view mirror fits etc. The part was 400 some dollars, which surprised me cuz I thought it was really cheap. The body shop said it was OEM and had to be special ordered.

To the thread starter...go with accuglass. The part is listed under a lancer. I paid 250 for the replacement of my front windshield.

I know the feeling man. I was behind a truck and watched the rock fly off it and ram my hood...nice scuff marks.

just had my windshield replaced a week ago. went to the dealership because no deductable on windshield on my insurance - so didn't care on price. the body shop at the dealership couldn't find "evolution" in the database there. put in lancer glass - that's it. fit right in. I kept telling them "no, the evolution glass is thinner. i need that glass." nothing found. even for lancer glass there was no ES, OZ, or evolution, just said "lancer" in there computer. cost to insurance $288 for everything.

It's cool to see someone on here in the auto glass biz. Pricing on that stuff has been a puzzle to me for a long time. And, hey, you are right down the road from me.

So the end result here is: We do have different windshields from a regular lancer.

someone correct if I misunderstood the whole thread.

thats a negative... although Mitsu will have 2 different part numbers, it is the same thing...

it's like the Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape... those 2 SUVs share the same windshield and are the same vehicle...
