It's bad, quite bad. Depending on how the engine is shut down (ignition cut off or ignition AND fuel cut off) it can be very bad, or a little bad. If the injectors keep firing while the engine is still rotating, that will dump raw fuel into the exaust/catalytic converter. You will melt the cat. converter to hell in no time that way. Revving it before shutting it off does absolutely nothing. In fact, revving an internal combustion engine without a load (or very little load) is one of the worst things you can do to it. Don't rev it before shutting it off, it is pointless and bad for it.

In a N/A car, with big carburation, lumpy cams and a rich mixture, keeping RPMS up and blipping the throttle before shut down might be a good thing. This keeps spark plugs from fouling up, and with a highly tuned V12 motor, the sound is awsome and the ladies love it. With modern fuel injection, reving the motor before shut down only makes noise, and if you have a turbo, decreases turbo life.

Speete is right. But the 2.4L has anything but a rich mixture. At idle it should be quite lean.
