Should I choose a EVO or STI?
I have been doing a lot of research and seems like the evo kicks the sti's *** in the performance department. The only thing is that it cost more than sti in my area.
Which car is easier to work on if something goes wrong?
This will be my DD and fun car, so reliability is VERY important.
Please convince me to get the evo.

youre on an evo site so everyone is going to tell you evo, if you go onto a subaru site everyone is going to tell you to get the subaru. its really up to you. if you plan on doing basic mods you probably would like the evo more. my brother has an sti and my mother thinks the evo is a much better daily diver

This is not going to be very fair. This is the Evo boards so naturally everyone for the most part is going to say to get the Evo all day every day.
The Evo will be easier to work on with out a doubt but the STi is more of a DD kind of car in stock form at least the 05+. Either car is going to be very fun, fast and can be reliable if you keep up on it.

Wow, this comes easy because I've owned both so I'll keep it short and sweet.
WRXes and STIs break and blow motors left and right, *based on my experience*. We used to have a team of built STIs (about 6) and every one has blown the motor at least once due to spun rod bearing etc.
I myself, blew 2 motors, one OEM and the other was a built shortblock from WorldOne. Both spun rod bearings. This is of course, from my experience. We don't beat our cars either. Did I mention the trannys break easily as well? Mine blew 3rd gear while I was downshifting at a red light.
After I got tired of throwing money at it to even sustain a respectable amount of HP and TQ, I sold it and bought a stock 03 EVO and I have been supremely happy ever since.
In essence, the EVO's are easier to work on (just cams and sparks on a boxer motor are difficult to install), much more fun, the money to power ratio compared to STIs - you'll gain more out of an EVO, and hell.. its an EVO. Thats a given.
Anyways, hope that is somewhat convincing.

I had both an evo and sti. Overall the evo wins hands down for me in performance and reliability. I blew everything you can imagine in the sti except the trans. First motor was ringlands and the 2nd motor I lost oil pressure because the oil pick up tube cracked off. It is also easier to make more power out of the evo. Cast iron > alumimun. You really can't run more than 24 psi on the sti even with a built shortblock(which was my 2nd motor) because the cylinder lining is pretty thin. I'm running a pte 6765 and kelford 280's in my evo and the car just keeps taking the mod's as a champ. The only problem i've ever had in my evo since owning it for almost 2 years is that my rear wheel bearing went out(300 dollar fix). I had the sti for 2 years and went thru 2 motors, wiring harness, rear strut, pitch mount, motor mount, 2 clutches, etc...

i had an 05 sti and modded it to over 400awhp and it sucked *** the best time i could pull off was a 11.852 with over $25k in mods and was in the shop all the time blew the motor with the stock turbo!, there is just so much more to go wrong in an sti, its crazy to work on and it doesnt make nearly the power an evo will make with the same mods, i bought an evo 9 put a couple bolt ons on, a tune and a twin disk clutch which all the mods cost me under $5k and i went 11.800 and never broke once or was in the shop other than getting tuned and a clutch, I'm pushing the stock motor to 604awhp now and havent had a problem, I'd say evo all the way I've had both and the evo blows the sti out of the water with turning and performance!!!!! My gf also had an 05 sti and same thing it was in the shop half of its life with blown coil plugs and bunch of other junk kept going wrong so she sold that and got an evo x, I've owned tons of different cars m3's, 911 turbo, viper, mustang, 1000hp camaro, sti, 2 wrx's, supercharged z06, 94 single turbo supra, GTR, and to be honest i love my evo more then any of these cars I've had, hope this helps you make the right decision that i should have made back in 05 to just buy an evo instead of the sti!!!!!!!

oh and are you in san fran area? You should come out to one of the evo meets and check it out for yourself. We always have a few random cars that join us! Also if you do get an evo you have a couple good shops in the area. I would suggest fftec(the one i go to), they have the fastest evo's in the bay and do the best work imo

He won't be spending money to mod it lol. He will spend money to fix it. A problem that I had. Pissed me off to always fix it and slowly go in more debt to buy mods for it
