YOUTUBE VIDEO:

Part Number: 30-4900
Price: $299.70
Application: Universal AEM Failsafe Gauge Wideband / Boost Gauge / Failsafe Device

THIS IS AEM's NEWEST PRODUCT ON THE MARKET. IT IS THE MOST ADVANCED, AND EASIEST TO USE WIDEBAND ON THE MARKET TODAY.

WHAT IS IT?

Its a wideband, its a 30psi boost gauge, and it will save your engine.

The AEM Failsafe Device is a wideband o2 meter that not only displays Air Fuel Ratio, but can also be programmed with user-defined limits, that can activate an output when exceeded. What does this mean? You can set the parameters for the wideband to say "if the air fuel ratio goes leaner than 13:1 while the car is making more than 6psi of boost, activate the output wire". It's up to you to wire the output wire to accomplish the "failsafe" action you see fit. For example you could cut ignition, or cut the power to the injectors, when the AFR parameters are exceeded. Or you could have the output wire trigger a relay that turns your boost controller off (returning the system back to wastegate-spring boost) when it encounters a problem. All of these things can save your engine from breaking in the event that theres a problem.

BOOST GAUGE

The Failsafe device has a big digital display on it that can be configured to display AFR, Lambda, AND BOOST. The gauge has a vacuum nipple on the back side that lets you hook up to a boost/vacuum source under the hood. The Failsafe Device has a built in boost gauge so all you have to do is hook the line up and now you have boost. You can hook your laptop up to the gauge and flip back and forth between Boost and AFR.

FULL TIME INTERNAL LOGGING

The new AEM Failsafe Device logs data to its internal storage for 3 hours at which point it starts overwriting the oldest data automatically. It logs AFR, RPM, and Boost/Vacuum, three very important pieces of information when logging a car. All you have to do is make your pull, then later you can hook your laptop up to the gauge and pull your data log off to review in the AEM log viewing software. No AEM Gauge ever came with internal data logging so this is a new and very important feature of this gauge. You DO NOT need to have your laptop hooked up to record the log, only to download it for viewing later.

CUSTOMIZABLE FACES

The Failsafe Device gauge face has 2 separate read-outs on it. One is a digital display, that can show numbers, the other is the colored ring around the top of the gauge that shows from green to orange to red. One can be set to boost, and one can be set to AFR, you have your choice of picking which is which, and there are gauge faces included for each.

AFR UNIT CONVERSIONS

If you are using alternative fuels like E85, Alcohol, etc...you can configure the gauge to output Lambda instead of AFR, that way it doesnt matter what fuel you are using.

HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT THAN THE CHEAPER AEM UEGO WIDEBAND 30-4100

The AEM 30-4100 Wideband that has been around for several years was a great product that everyone could benefit from, however it could only display information visually by itself. It was up to you to watch the gauge, and act quickly if you saw things go bad. This is the first wideband AEM has ever offered that can decide to save the engine for you, more quickly than you could lift your foot off the gas pedal. This wideband is intelligent in the fact that it can take your instruction through programming and activate the failsafe protocol you design to save the engine for you, before you even know there was a problem. Also, the old 30-4100 wideband could not read or display boost, this gauge is also a 30psi boost gauge. Also, the old aem wideband did not have internal datalogging, or any datalogging. All of these features make this a more technologically advanced product. This gauge is the future of wideband technology and its a no brainer to choose this gauge over the old uego wideband gauge.

I'm in the market for one of these. From the pictures that hose seems kind of short, does the vaccum hose goes to a pressure sensor with its own wire and then to the gauge? or the hose goes from the gauge all the way to the engine bay intake manifold where it tees off? I'm a bit confused. it would be great if someone posted some pics

The vacuum runs from the gauge to the source.
