On an EVO VIII we recommend our wider core because the opening permits flow to all of it. We only shipped one pre-production unit (to Nick) so there are not any VIIIs running the wide-tank intercooler yet.
We can build any of the current sizes in this wide-tank version right now
Give me a call

They do look pretty menacing, I'll agree
You're more than welcome! Post some pictures if you get a chance
You've got it Because the IX bumper opening is only 22" wide and can't take advantage of the wider core on our intercoolers, we developed these to use up all of the available frontage and then use the rest of the space behind the bumper beam for absolute maximum distribution throughout the core by using wider endtanks. We still recommend the wider core on EVO VIII bumpers and body kitted EVOs that can take advantage of the extra width

Edited for clarity
We've had one customer with a standard width 4" intercooler need trimming of the bumper beam for perfect fitment thus the reason we indicate that on our website. We've not encountered any trimming while installing that unit nor have any of our other customers, however, since Mitsubishi holds a .030" tolerance for body work and we hold a .010" tolerance it is possible that both being at opposite ends of their respective ranges could make the cooler touch the beam. It is simply VERY tight around every dimension with the 4" intercooler so we prefer for the overwhelming majority that install this intercooler to be pleasantly surprised that there is no trimming
