As for the V70R, like the S60R, it really isn't supposed to compete with the Evo. It's more along the lines of a Legacy GT or a MazdaSpeed 6. All good cars in their own right, but much more in tune with comfort and bigger in size/weight. The S60/V70 AWD drivetrain too isn't geared for performance as it's more or less a FWD drive train until something slips, which leads me to believe it's behavior at the edge of traction will more closely match a FWD car than an Evo.

It’s my understanding that the wagon stopped production in 12/05 all produced for JDM.
Your best chance will probably be the 08 Legacy GT Spec B wagon unless they decide to make an STI wagon for USDM.

I'm holding out hope that the Evo X will have a wagon in the US. It's a long shot, but it'd be nice. The Evo 9 wagon was JDM-only and a very short production run, but I'm hoping it was a trial run for the next model. At this point, rumor and speculation give too much credit to anything regarding the future of the Evo wagon, but I'm crossing my fingers, and damn it - that means something! ;-)

Here's a recent Autoweek article that is a very informative read on how the Evo wagon came to exist.

Performance wagons ARE the future in the US....SUV's are slowly on the way out. Impending CAFE fuel rules and lack of SUV interest are also to blame. Mercedes is allready selling the E55 AMG Estate wagon, E63 Estate next year and possibly the C63 AMG Estate. Proven SRT Hemi Dodge sales are paving the way...
