i bought my VIII in cali, over the net and phone, had it shipped to hawaii. cali tax is 8%, Hawaii is 4%, i paid neither. the shipping was equal to about 2% tax. Why pay tax?

Dunno about Hawaii, but to buy out-of-State and not pay your State taxes when you register the car locally is illegal.

That thing was truly well built. With the two used ones I owned (the other was a 944 turbo) I never kept them long enough to be outside of the warranty period.....a smart move.
Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to own a Porsche and now I've satisfied that lust. I think the Evo now is what the Porsche "Club Sports" used to be; almost a race car built for the street and track.
interesting that you describe your '89 911 as crude - my '90 300 ZX twin-turbo provides similar memories - seemed quite the opposite though - easy power steering, smoothe shifting, and ABS.
But with 400 hp in it I had a few clutch and tranny repairs bills. The engine, however, never gave a single problem.

I'll try to keep the Evo 9 stock for as long as I can.

Stock? That was my intention too, but I'm weakening rapidly.

I think I'll give it 6 months to make sure I've got a good 'un (and use the warranty to its fullest extent) and then I'll do some minor mods. I'm only looking for around 275 to 300 reliable whp; that's easily enough to satisfy me for a daily driver. Problem is, what parts & tuner to opt for....there's a mind-boggling array. Research and anticipation is half the fun though .

At least 5K down, finance the rest, and sell my current car privately.

I think we are of the same mind on that one.
It's just too hard to resist...and given my track record.

I'm already eyeing the AMS set up:

Price drop on instock VIII's after IX is released at dealers?

I cant really see dealers selling too many VIII's right now with the IX comming so soon. I am hoping to get a deal on an 05 left in stock. For me I was gonna buy an 05 in December but life happened and I had to wait. The IX is nice but if I can get an 05 at a good deal I will be more than happy.

What do U guys think?
