Because once upon a time we bombed the them?
They bombed us, in Mitsubishi airplanes (the best of which was called the Zero Fighter), which coincidentally, had an Evo named after them (Evo VI Zero Fighter).

Mitsubishi doesn't have MONEY, yet they need to sell cars. The best they can do
is repackage some small cosmetic tweaks. This is the only way they don't have to
go through crash testing certification all over again. The X will be a new car with
the things everyone wants or Mitsu will be dead by then.

I believe the Zeros mostly flew fighter escort to the Aichi D3AI "Val" dive bombers and Nakajima B5N "Kate" bombers. BTW, the Mitsubishi used a Nakajima engine. After WWII the Nakajima Aircraft Company split to become (in part) Subaru.

how about durability. From reading the foreign boards the SAYC rear diff is much more fragile (and complicated) than it's fixed limited slip counterpart. My bet is MMNA didn't want to open the can of worms that would accompany all the US "drag boys" destroying these diffs and the bad PR that would accompany it.

I mean if it came here I could see the posts already "I upgraded my clutch because mitsu sucks and they put a crappy clutch in, and now they won't cover replacing my blown SAYC rear diff. I mean I only launched it like 5 times on my new clutch. Why does mitsubishi sell such crap and not stand behind it???"

YMMV,
Greg

sidenote: I wouldn't mind trying out a SAYC diff, but I personally think that my 05 MR is plenty of fun the way it is for carving corners.

What are the differences between IX JDM and IX US?

I think that the JDM will have the max TQ at 3000rpm!!!

3. Engine & transmission

For Evolution IX the 4G63 engine gains Mitsubishi's MIVEC variable valve timing technology that improves top-end output as well as fuel efficiency. MIVEC technology allows GSR to return 10.0 km/l in the Japanese 10-15 mode driving cycle, equivalent to a three percent improvement in mileage.
On GSR, the turbocharger uses a lengthened diffuser to generate more low-end and mid-range torque (400 N-m(40.8 kg-m)/3000rpm) as well as bring a significant improvement in response (average 5%) across the full rev range.
On the RS and GT, the turbocharger compressor wheel uses magnesium alloy instead of aluminum alloy. This brings a dramatic improvement in supercharging response. Mated to a 5-speed gearbox with higher torque capacity, the engine has been tuned to generate maximum torque of 407 N-m(41.5 kg-m)/3000rpm.
The 5-speed transmission used on the RS and GT derives from the close-ratio competition gearbox but has a revised top gear ratio for improved high-speed cruising.

It's like Vtec from Honda... but more complicated.

I'm looking forward to swaping MIVEC heads on to the EVO VIII!

I bet the traps and ETs are the same as the EVO 8

Well thats a good question, since they also re did the gears on the 5 speed tranny. I wonder how that and the MIVEC engine will affect traps and ETs

How does everybody know they want AYC if they've never driven with it before?

Personally to me it sounds like more cons than pros.

The new interior is awesome, and I'm glad we got the blacked out lights and so forth. The MAJOR dissapointment is the rear bumper. That JDM version makes it very distinguishable from the VIII. Now with the USDM version, even if the front bumper is a major change, without that new rear bumper, the difference seems minimal. Even with the whole crash test regulations, I'm almost positive there would've been some way to get a similar design here in the U.S. Couldn't they have at least given us a different rear bumper than the VIII? Like remolded it or something? JDM VIII rear lip? ANYTHING? That sucks.

Oh well. All the other changes look good. Overall,
