But where will the Evolution evolve next? "A wider power range, a softer ride, and quieter. This is our direction," Iwata says. Then he points to a Mitsubishi-owned Volkswagen R32 fitted with VW's silky-shifting Direct Shift Gearbox and asks, "What do you think of this transmission? It is very interesting to us." To some people, an Evo with paddle shifters and a mellow ride, an Evo that doesn't explode forward at 3000 rpm but merely wafts to higher velocities like a piano pushed off a skyscraper-well, that's just no Evo at all.
Why do they want to make the Evo softer, and like the R32? I think they should stay on target and continue to focus on the STi. They sell a lot of them around here. I see them every day. The STi is a little more refined than the Evo in terms of comfort and fit and finish. They could focus on those aspects and maintain the Evo performance.

I'm going to buy a IX since I have to wait for my house to close in Aug. and they told me not to do anything that will mess with my credit report (need to keep that 700+ score).... but I actually dont like new new front bumper ... do you think I can change it out with the 8 front bumper ????

They've always liked the EVO VIII and they like the EVO IX alittle better. They did the first official acceleration tests on the EVO IX for an American Magazine and they got 0-60- 4.6 Seconds, 0-100- 11.9 Seconds and 1/4 Mile- 13.4 Seconds@104MPH. Not as quick as I hoped, but then again, Car and Driver are not the best at driving the EVO and this is the quickest any stock EVO has ever ran during their tests.
Car and Driver EVO MR Tests-
2005 EVO VIII MR (Feb 2005)
0-60- 4.8 Seconds
0-100- 12.6 Seconds
1/4 Mile- 13.6@104MPH
2006 EVO IX MR (May 2005)
0-60- 4.6 Seconds
0-100- 11.9 Seconds
1/4 Mile- 13.4@104MPH
I know the trap speeds are similiar but I do believe the EVO IX MR stock for stock is a quicker car than EVO VIII MR, I think it will definitly pull much harder up top. Other mags will better this time easily and so will a lot new EVO IX owners. I know the EVO VIII and STi have always been pretty close when it came to racing, but I think it is now pretty much official, that the EVO IX stock for stock is hands down a quicker car than the 2005-2006 STi (if the STi goes unchanged into the 2006 model season).
