That package is all profit for the dealership. Can't blame them during these economic times for wanting to squeeze a touch more profit on the sale. Hell, I want my MR with it. I would also be all over that IX Ralliart carbon lip if it were offered for sale by the dealer.

Yes, I can think of a million-and-one reasons (lol)....seriously.
I'm very familiar with Evos (originally from the UK where they've been around since '92) but have never owned one. I've been lurking on this site for several months, doing research etc. in readiness to buy a IX MR to replace my modded S4. I thought it was a done deal, but..........
I've been really psyched for the past several months but now it's time to commit I'm having second thoughts. I'm seriously considering the M3 instead (but haven't completely ruled out the IX MR).
I think the Evo is a fantastic car, but be prepared for high maintenance costs and HUGE depreciation......I think people have been led into a fall sense of security about long-term resale value because of supply and demand on the VIII in the early years. If you don't treat it as an "investment" just a fantastic performance car at a relatively bargain-basement, then you probably won't be disappointed.

Personally, I avoided the M3 because of the fun factor and the price (not worth that kind of money when compared to the Evo & its abilities). I seriously doubt that I'd have a smile on my face every time I started up my M3, as compared to my Evo, for 2 years running. I am selling the VIII - only to buy a IX RS.
I would be sick to my stomach at the first signs of a rattle or strange sound in my M3 - not the Evo (within reason
)
By the way - My last car was a well-modded b5S4 I Abted for a different tuner; only kidding, it wasn't Abt - O.CT.
Good luck with your decision - its been good reading some of your posts

Cheers Meanmud.
This is a really great informative site and I've really enjoyed (am enjoying) every minute of it. I've NEVER been so undecided in my life about my next car purchase (possibly a sign of growing old, lol). I usually get bored very quickly and swop cars more frequently than my boxers.
When I objectively look at my options, it's difficult to find a real reason (except boredom) to get rid of my modded S4. It's only just passed the 40k miles mark and I've had it since new, so I know its history......plus it's been very reliable. If I sell it now, I'll probably only get $20k for it (a steal in my opinion). I live in Upstate NY so AWD makes a lot of sense to me and there aren't many options out there.
The Evo is definitely a car that gets my juices flowing. I'm not a car snob and I would happily drive a Yugo if it was reliable and performed well. I'm not bothered that the Evo doesn't have all the bells and whistles (though the JDM cold weather pack would be invaluable) such as cruise and I couldn't care less whether it impresses my neighbours or work colleagues. At the end of the day, the car must satisy you, no one else.
I guess if I buy the M3 ($53k as I've optioned it) or the IX MR (around $36k) I would probably end up losing about the same amount of money after 5 years ownership.......it all comes down to which car would be most enjoyable to own as a daily driver over a 5 year period.
I'm 2nd on the waiting list at my local dealer for the IX, but I've not had "the call" yet. If I can't put it on the road before early November then I'm going to wait until Spring '06 to decide what to do. By then it will be only 10 months, or so, 'til the Evo X arrives.......oh God, will I ever make my mind up?
Time to crack another cold one.............

The 10 will be unveiled next month at the Tokyo auto show. At least then you will know which way to go. If the 10 kicks *** I will skip the 9. If I hate the 10 I will trade my O3 in on an SSL 9.

I'm on my 4th right now
Well - I hit the 40 plateau last year, and it is the only thing keeping my fluids flowing
I ran my Evo in the winter of '03 - this is where I had a problem; SALT
This, in my opinion, is the weak spot! It drove like a Bombardier on Crack; however, some of the components didn't hol up well to the salt & cynder spewed all over the roads I repeat, ON CRACK! I ran it with Blizzaks
Anyway - you have time, you'll choose the right thing.
Me, I wanted to wait until spring, but my buddy went and ordered me a WW RS - due in very soon. I'll probably garage it for the winter; I was looking forward to no payment and insurance for a few months Plus I have an Audi Avant.

MTSR4,
If you think for a second that an M3 will be any less costly to maintain than an Evo, your just kidding yourself. I worked for bMW as a parts manager many years ago and they were one of the most costly cars to maintain back then. I'm sure it hasn't changed. As far as an investment, any car is going to lose it's valve. The bimmer will cost you at least 15K more than the Evo. Even used you are looking at the same price differents. BMW should be worth more money used than an Evo, you paid much more for it.
For me, is the price different worth the extra money and I would have to say no. Bang for your buck, the Evo is the best valve out there today. The reason I would not buy a X is because the all the problems/recalls assiocated with new vehicel lines. I'm not knocking it, it is just a fact. Just my 2 cents.....
