Video on possible DSG transmission

Here's a 'self explanatory' video about the DSG tranny and how it works. I say self explanatory because there's no audio for the video (it wouldnt have mattered since it's in german anyway). The video is from VW/Audi and it has a pretty obvious animation on how the DSG transmission works. Note how quickly each shift is executed with minimal drop in RPMs.

interesting to see... not bad idea... for me i still think i would prefer the traditional 5speed or 6speed with clutch... its noting better than you feeling in control.. i really hope the new X will have both options?

My bro has A3 2.0T with DSG. What an awesome transmission... I honestly would not miss conventional manual if I had DSG. The shifts are incredibly quick and precise, up or down. No manual driver, no matter how good he may be, cannot match the quickess or precision. Plus it can operate in auto mode when you're just cruising around or stuck in traffic, which is a huge plus for me because stepping on the clutch eleventy billion times in traffic is just painful. The only downside I can see is that the car cannot be launced properly unless there is a launch control programmed from factory, which A3's do not have.

BTW, my bro has his tuned to about 250whp and he beats cars that he should not beat because his shifts are so quick. lol. He told me that he gains like half of a car length when the other car is shifting.

Everybody keeps talking about how the Evo X is going to have "DSG." Is Mitsu going to license it from VAG, or did they come up with something similar on their own?

I believe they're licensing it from somewhere, I think borg-warner or from who ever Audi/VW get's theirs.

IMO I think the DSG may prove more 'durable' for abusive drivers because A)Clutch dumps arent possible B) Speed/Power shifting isnt necessary and C) People who cant drive stick well wont have an opportunity to damage the clutch/tranny. Another tantalizing possibility is built-in launch control ala Formula 1. The GTI DSG featured on bestmotoring has it and gotta tell ya, it's drag racing for dummies. Sure it'll take out some of the human factor but you get picture perfect launches each and every time. Reaction time might even be better since you're focused 100% at the tree instead of the tach.

I sold my 05 and am now waiting on something cool to come out. I have driven 3 GTI MKVs with DSG and I like it. I took my DMV test in a manual and have been clutching motorcycles since I was 6 years old so I know how to shift gears and love to.

DSG works...FAST and it even blips the engine when you down shift with the paddles. Shifts are really like turning on a light. The engine even "pops/vents" in between shifts at moderate boost building speeds. It's ****in cool peeps.

If the next EVO comes with a DSG tranny I will start a fund for my next EVO. A powerful car like the EVO with a DSG would be a straight up rocket. One boost climb and bam it's ON as the boost stays put in between shifts....are you ****ing kidding me???

Flight # X you are cleared for take off.
