Potential EVO X Owners

Driving stick is awesome, but I understand that DSG seems to be the way of the future. I hope to have manual transmission cars for a long time... when I think of DSGs, I don't think of the purebred rally car the Evo has been for the last 15 years :-/

I've invested too much time learning to drive manual...Its fun but i know im not going to be the DSG consistantly...or maybe EVER for that matter..Tough decision, depends if they put manual on the launch cars..If they do ill take Manual..

It is sad to me if all the cars start to head towards these type of trannys. Even if it is a easier and faster setup, the reason we all want manuals is because of how much fun and challenging they can be. On the drag strip built auto's are faster, but what is the fun in that. A monkey can push the gas all the way to the floor and go, but in my mind it takes some talent to do it and have to shift at the same time. Manuals all the way IMO!!

To me going faster is more fun. If the DSG that comes with the Evo X proves to be a solid unit that will make me faster, than that would mean I will have a higher chance of winning on the racetrack. Winning is fun. Losing sucks.

My parents have a Range Rover sport, and a benz SLK both have that auto-do it yourself shift crap. Is the new Evo going to have something better? When i shift it myself it auto shifts before it hits redline. I'll test drive it and if it does the same thing then NO i wont get one. And ill look for a new leftover IX.

As long as there isn't a huge power loss like there is with regular autos, I don't see the problem. I bet there will be excellent aftermarket tuning options with these things too.

I think manual will win me over I do like the paddle shifters but never tried them so I may hate them. I have to drive 550 miles atleast 1 weekend a month, thanks army but I think I just have to experience it and test drive it myself.

the evo "auto" won't have a torque converter, which causes the power loss in true automatics. the new tranny is a manual transmission in it's basic design (clutch(es) etc) but is shifted electronically without a clutch pedal automatically or via paddle shifter.
given a manual, dsg/amt/whatever and a true auto, the dsg/amt performs best, then manual then auto. the amt/dsg performs better because it can shift faster than humanly possible.
now, this technology is relatively new, especially in affordable cars like the X and some VW models. Their true durability hasn't been proven, especially given what most of us do to these cars with power mods and driving habits. on the flipside, this comes down to the streets from racing technology where it has been proven over many years.
and i'm a definite potential evo x owner and would come from the subaru camp
