Also I keep telling people this, but the 3500Lbs estimate in my opinion is for 6-speed semiautomatic, the 5-Speed True Manual I believe will be lighter I could be wrong, but in the end it is all speculation and guess we will have to wait and see.

I'm really hoping it's a 6-speed not a 5-speed. Ever since my T/A, I sometimes find myself trying to upshift from 5th on the highway.
(searches for gear ratios on the 9s) Wow.. yeah I *PRAY* it's a 6 speed. A .76 5th with a 4.5 FD would be painful on the highway. I live in MA where speed limits on the highways are more like guidelines...
Who knows, maybe Mitsu will do what GM did with the gearbox in the 4th gen F-bodys. The gearing from 1-5 was about what you'd expect for a normal 5-speed, but 6th was super high (0.5:1 ratio) for highway travel. That way they could hit the EPA mandated highway mileage.
With a 0.5 6th and a 3.43 FD, I was only turning 2000rpm at 80mph. That big 5.7L ~362hp V8 made 31mpg on the highway

yeah, those babies are gonna be marked up per demand. Figure all the import mag's and vendors will get the first models, sponsors, etc.....average consumer will be mixed in there (hopefully sooner than later).

As far as I know the X is a new car so wouldn't it mean that EVO owners are inexperienced as well? Please elaborate on your statement.
I own a subie currently and Im dissapointed in the new design direction of Subaru's, the new X is probably going to be my next purchase barring an insane increase in price.

Just on the price, I can not see the X being less then $34,000. I don't know anybody associated with Mitsubishi or have any inside information, it just seems to me with the equipment mentioned that this would be the price. I of course reserve the right to be wrong and hope that Mitsubishi surprises me. 
Has anybody heard anything about different trim levels in the X? As for the Subaru, that thing is just out and out ugly. I can not imagine that is going to sell all that well.

i'd love to know where they get off quoting a 12.5 1/4 mile. i know it's an estimate but the numbers (even considering the better torque curve) don't justify a 12.5, imo.

One dealership in CT told me the Evo 8 (back in 05) was the fastest street legal car and was even outlawed in Cali. Another one tried to sell me a IX MR with 2000+ miles on it that was beaten to death by an Ex-sales manager. Another one told me that they couldnt get my alignment to stock specs after installing Swift springs unless I bought camber plates or bolts.
See a trend here. People at Mitsu dealers in CT dont seem to be too bright.
Now for somthing a little on topic, those numbers are exactly what Road&Track listed in their magazine.

286hp to 300hp is less than a 5% increase. 3300lbs to 3500lbs is greater than a 6% increase. If going by these numbers alone it should be slower! Not sure what math you're using... I understand how gearing, and whatnot, can play a role, but it's not like this is the first lancer to get performance oriented gearing.

I think they list 300hp because they're certain it will be that much. They are anticipating (hoping is a better word) from some of the articles I've read on the power being anywhere from 320hp/325tq. That would be lovely.

this is a little off topic but even Honda is going to jump into the fight! the turbo'd 2.4L from the acura MDX is s'posed to be tossed into the acura tsx with AWD...
i think it is aimed a little more towards the mazda 6 or whatever their awd turbo car is....

Interesting is definately the word. Perhaps Honda sees the market for AWD performance cars. But the true test will be in the execution. Last I heard the AWD system in the Mazda left a LOT to be desired. If Honda follows a similar route, they won't garner the same level of enthusiasm and aftermarket support as the Evo and STI do.
