Price Change???
#16
Check the production numbers on supras opposed to the EVO's and you'll realize that the IX and the X will go down in value. Whenever a manufacturer releases a new model of that same car, whether its better or worse, the previous model ALWAYS goes down in value.
#17
Hmm let me think. A mass-produced car produced by a japanese manufacturer is superseded by another model... and you think the price for the previous (second hand) model might somehow go above the price it was before it walked out the showroom floor?
Are you sure you're old enough to drive? Is this a parody thread?
Are you sure you're old enough to drive? Is this a parody thread?
I was just thinking about those cars that did go up in value, like everyone said the rx7, and supras. Also I was wondering how much i was looking to pay for an MR once the time was right.
#18
Not necessarily, I was talking to my buddy that works at the Acura dealers about some Rsxs. Well I drive an 04 rsx, and he was telling me that they had a few rsxs that they never sold on the lot. The prices of the 04s were higher then the 06s by a couple hundred. The only main difference is the new front and rear bumpers and a difference in K series engines. This might be like a one out of a million cases, so this is why im asking.

Frankly, if you want the X to perform worse than the IX, then I think you've got some issues to work out. We're on the same team here, a better performing car is good for everyone.
As for the appearance of the 8 and 9? It certainly didn't win any beauty awards.
you don't see me going to whatever trueno or hachi roku website you go for your car needs and dissing your cars like "oh man so and so car is better, why didn't you get that or why didn't you get a gt-s instead of the SR5".
I also don't recall *ever* saying those who purchased the 8 or 9 should have purchased something else. Nor have I said they should trade in for the X. And please point to where I have said "so and so car is better." IMO, there are only TWO cars in the Evo's class. The Evo and the STI. And I have always freely admitted that when running at 10/10ths the Evo is a better performer.
Also by this statement
Fourth, whether or not I own an Evo has nothing to do with the facts that are "on the table." You don't need to own a car to see it, to sit in it, to know the specs, or see how it stacks up against its own competition.
It seems you really know nothing about cars in general and are just some fanboy.

So if you don't know the specs of a car how will you determine if it is fast or slow?
what drive train it is? what size engine it has? if it is AT or MT? you know the basic thing's people want to know of a car that has a hefty price tag.
Have you ever even driven a fast car?
It just pisses me off when people talk bad about cars that they haven't even driven or owned.

Probably similar to what fans of the Evo X feel when people say it looks like crap. As for performance, shouldn't the owners of a car named the "Evolution" want the next generation of their car to go to the next step in performance? Funny thing is if you check out the STI boards, people may hate the new style, but they all agree that they want it to perform better than the previous models.

Did I say anything along those lines? You just seem to think it will totally annihilate the current gen Evo's without even knowing any of it's specs. I mean Mitsubishi has killed off nice cars(3rd and 4th gen Eclipses, Galant)
As for the appearance of the 8 and 9? It certainly didn't win any beauty awards.
I never said it was the nicest looking car around that award goes to the FD RX7
Not that I care. The car I have is 100% stock and really was a purchase for fun. It's a great little car to play around in, specially in the snow.

In not so many words, but your saying that the New Evo will be better that it will kill the current Evo's without even having any solid evidence. Just basing on the name Evolution.
Interesting observation, but off-base by far. Let's see, I can sit in any Evo on a dealership's lot. I can get all of the specs online whenever I like (i.e. Evo IX MR has a curb weight of 3285lbs). And there are plenty of articles comparing the Evo to the STI. Doesn't matter how good the driver is for the most part, as long as the same driver ran both cars you can compare the "delta". It's like dynos, you can't cross compare them, but you can compare different runs on the same dyno.
I don't know if you read what you typed but you said you don't need to know the specs of a car to see how it preforms now you are saying that you can get the "Specs online whenever I like" who understands you.
I can't, and haven't. However, there are good reasons to speculate that the Evo X will at least equal the IX and more than likely just edge it out in performance. Conversely, in the lack of specs, it is equal speculation that the X will perform worse than the IX. But I don't think the circumstances support that speculation as much as the first.
I'm sure they may be equal stock or the X might have a slight advantage, but who keeps the current evo's stock? Plus with all their after market support It'll be hard to edge out the current evo's. Until 3-4 years when we have the platform to work on and test it out.
I'm not sure what you point here is. We know clearly what drivetrain, displacement, and transmissions the X will have. As well as what options are likely going to be available for it.
I hope you know this is an example of what you said earlier about not needing to know the specs of a car.
And yet people talk bad about the X and it isn't even on the road yet, and you aren't jumping on their case. The only thing bad I've said about the 8 or 9 is that I think they're ugly, and their interiors leave a lot to be desired. That's it. Now I'd appreciate it if you would stop attacking me so we can continue to talk and speculate about the X in a more mature manner.
The Only bad thing I've said about the X is that the back of the car looks hideous and that it's Engine may not be as robust as the current one. Have a good day and those are your opinions like I've addressed earlier.

the 8-9's will always be worth good $$$, for one they are not mass produced cars , and two, at the rate they get totaled the numbers are dwindling. u will always get a solid price. in ten years u will have guys fighting on your front lawn for them.
#23
what determines if the price goes up is pure AND SIMPLE. Supply and demand baby. As the years go by and people want it, then the value of the car will go up. As of right now it sounds like everyone wants one, and since they dont make them anymore, Right now its a good time to let it sit in the garage. But whos to say in the future if people WANT it. It has nothing to do with it being foreign, japanese or whatever. If people want it, price increases, plain and simple.

However, the X, both manual and DSG will edge out the 9 on the track. The S-AWC system will let the X be thrown into corners more aggressively allowing for higher entry and exit speeds.
But I also think the performance on the track between the Manual X and the DSG X will be very close, and probabaly be up to the driver. I think the tradeoff will be between the DSG's lightning upshifts and a Manual's more accurate and faster downshifts.

Ownership of an Evo was what you put into question here:
Draco-REX: Why are you always bashing on the Current gen Evo's. You don't even own one.
By looking at the specs of the IX and the performance it has, what went into making the IX, what we know about the new Lancer chassis vs the old chassis, and taking into account what Mitsu has riding on the Evo X (both financially and reputation wise), you can make some reasonable assumptions. THAT is speculation. And not a whit of it requires ownership of an Evo.

A Z-06 is faster than an Evo.
Yeah, but with the money I save I can make the Evo faster.
Well, I can save more money with a used [name a car] and be in the 9s.
etc. etc.
So comparisons can really only be done stock. That's why magazines only test with the original tires at the reccomended pressure.
I hope you know this is an example of what you said earlier about not needing to know the specs of a car.

Rx 7 and supra saw a price rise mainly due to there roles in the fast and the furious and the fact that there companies no longer produce them also helps oh and they are 2 door sports cars, not a 4 door sports sedan like a evo.
Ive seen 03 evo 8's had for 21k. So no, the 8 or 9 will no go up in battle. They will only go down.

evo 8/9 will not go up...
supras went up cuase of the tuner-crazy crowd. obviously ya know how easy it is to mod supras... 800HP stock motor = insane.
they have NO Supra modles out now... if they released one 4-5 years after 1998 i think prices wouldnt be so overly retarded on them.
but releasing a new su[ra modle right now... i think the MK4 would still hold most thier value but drop alittle. 3-5k at most (only if new modle was priced around 40-45k

Umm.. no.
In another thread I said:
And earlier in this very thread I said:
I have never said the X will "totally annihilate" the current Evos. That's just as unreasonable as saying the X will be a bloated pig on the track.
I might of exaggerated on annihilated, but nevertheless without any proof you keep on thinking that the X is the next best thing next to sliced bread. Where as you have no proof just guesstimating like all of us.
Understanding in this medium falls within Reading Comprehension. I believe you should brush up on yours. I'll try to explain it again.
You don't need to own a car to get the specs on it. (in this case, the VIII and IX)
You don't need to own a car to get a basic idea of how it compares to its competition. (In this case Evo vs STI)
Do you realize you basically said that about any car like I don't need to know the specs of a car to know how it compares so just sit in the driver's seat without any specs and you'll already know how a car preforms?
Ownership of an Evo was what you put into question here:
And I was explaining that ownership of an 8 or 9 is not neccesary to speculate on the performance of the 10. Somewhere you got confused.
I've never driven a Toyota Corolla SR5 but by the specs I should know how it drives and how it will compare to other cars? You can get a basic Idea but not an in depth analysis of a car until you drive it I mean every Car reviewer know's the specs but they don't really know how a car preforms until they thoroughly drive it.
So you are somebody that can say "so and so car is going to do better because the specs"? Look at the Evo vs Sti. The Sti is rated at 2.5 liter boxer engine. The boxer engine improves handling because of the lower center of gravity it has. The Sti has more horsepower and IMO a stronger/better overall transmission than the Evo. The Evo still manages to beat the Sti when it only has a 2.0 liter engine, less horsepower, a weaker transmission and a heavier engine in the front that is an iron block. How do you explain that? I mean by the specs wouldn't you go with the Sti? I mean it has more displacement, more power, and a way better transmission The engine is a boxer engine and is an aluminum block which means it's lighter and more efficient because of the lower center of gravity.
I've never speculated on modified performance because it is impossible to compare modified cars. Hell, take two modified Evos. Which handles better? Which is faster? Which cost less to mod? You really can't compare modified cars. That's why when comparing cars, you can really only do so stock-to-stock. Otherwise you end up with arguments like:
A Z-06 is faster than an Evo.
Yeah, but with the money I save I can make the Evo faster.
Well, I can save more money with a used [name a car] and be in the 9s.
etc. etc.
I know that. That is why I stated that mostly every evo owner has their car modified in some may it be BPU or heavily modified, and that the current Evo's aren't really impressive stock but their aftermarket support is huge and this is something that the new Evo X won't have for a couple of years. Most people like picking up Evo's solely for their wide array of readily available aftermarket parts that are out and already proven and tested.
So comparisons can really only be done stock. That's why magazines only test with the original tires at the reccomended pressure.
Who doesn't know this I am sure everyone is aware of this.
I'm still mystified when I said you don't need to know the specs of a car? The closest I can come to is that I feel I can get a basic idea of how the X may perform without knowing the specs. But that's because the specs aren't out yet, hence the word 'Speculation' that I've been using.
I guess we're both mystified then, because I am saying in cars in general that you don't need to know the specs of a car to see how it will preform? That is what you posted I am sure you know the specs of the cars in hand, but I mean in other cars in general that you don't need to know the specs to see how it will preform?
And yet you attack me. And here we are, several posts later, I still don't understand where your animosity lay. I have refuted each point you have made with examples showing that I have been fair, if opinionated. The most egregious insult I have slung towards the current Evos was an exaggeration meant to put the post it was responding to in better perspective.

It's like If you were go to some random person's house and say that their house is ugly the house down the street is better what kind of response do you think you are going to get from that person?
I will be the mature person and leave it at that. I am done wasting my time with you. I just still don't get how you don't need to know the specs of a car to see how it will preform that truly baffles me. If you could share this secret with me then I guess I would be able to understand.
