The Evo will be on sale in Japan before it makes its debut at the Tokyo Auto Show. It was slated for the Frankfurt show, but unforseen circumstances pushed it back (intentionally I dont know). It wont be on sale in the US before Japan. Mitsu is still trying to claw its way out of the scandal it had a few years back. There will also be a "modified" HP rating. Mitsu has done this intentionally to save would be consumers on auto insurance. This is no new ploy either. This has been going on since muscle car wars of yore. Think "Hemi" and their grossly underrated HP figures on initial realese in the 70s. Other than that, I cant speculate on the actual price figure, but my educated guess would be at or near MR pricing. Mitsu is REALLY trying to haul a lot of prospective buyers into their fold. Look at the cars the Evo has been in company with during track testing. Mitsu has set the bar high, and they are trying to convince people that it is worth more than the watered down econobox stigma the Lancer is cursed with. Pricing will adjust accordingly with the increased perception of the car.

No, if *Mitsubishi* said that they underrated the hp to save on car insurance, it wasn't for the USDM. But then, we haven't seen the USDM hp ratings yet. I think they'll be closer to the real number. That 311 Tq is *very* telling.

Never, ever buy the very first iteration of a new vehicle. Production and testing is always behind with the fit and function of the car. The second year is usually better because they have incorporated any changes that affect warranty, rattling, etc by then. Hopefully they also tune the engine in better based upon the competition coming out with more powerful specs.
Just my two cents.

HP ratings don't figure into insurance rates in the US. That's just a myth. What insurance company look at is how often the car gets into accidents, on average how much is paid out for those accidents, and also how often the car is stolen. Horsepower is no longer a factor. There are a lot of cars out today that have very high horsepower but none of the prestige that you'd find in a sports car. If insurance companies really paid attention to HP, wouldn't you think we'd see a 'ceiling' where HP ratings wouldn't exceed? Something similar to the 276hp 'gentleman's agreement' in Japan?
