Mitsubishi Motors Announces it will Cease Production of the Lancer Evolution in 2011
I just saw this article on SO cal evo, really sucks what this economy has come too.

Mitsubishi Motors Japan announced today in Tokyo via press conference that it would cease the production of the Lancer Evolution in 2011. In the face of economic downturn across the globe, President Osamu Masuko said that it no longer made sense to continue the manufacturing of a car which no longer fit in today’s eco-conscious world. The Lancer Evolution has been an albatross for the company financially for the last decade or so and analysts are surprised the much troubled model has survived this long. Edward J. Forrester of Merill Lynch Japan said, "It doesn’t come as a surprise to us, we’re actually surprised the model and line of vehicles has lasted this long". Earlier this month the shutdown of the Ralliart performance division signaled the sign of the times. After a long run which barely saw any significant gains in profit or revenue, Mitsubishi decided to cut it’s losses and shutdown the wayward performance brand. When asked by the press if any future performance vehicle would take over the Evolution brand, President Masuko replied that if Mitsubishi did look towards a performance vehicle in the future, it would be an eco-conscious vehicle. Analysts translated that as being a hybrid or other eco-friendly powered vehicle.
