Subaru might also be considering a diesel model of the STi, just so you know.

A diesel engine for the Subaru WRX STi!?!
Following rumors that the next generation Nissan Z could apparently be powered by hybrid motors and/or a diesel engine, it's Subaru's turn to consider alternative propulsion methods for it's performance car, the WRX STI.
This isn't the first time that Subaru's hinted that it would be possible to produce good power and, most of all, a phenomenal amount of torque, thanks to a diesel-fueled engine.
The rumor follows current trends. As a matter of fact, the STi's eternal rival, the Mitsubishi EVO, has also previously spoken of hybrid and diesel propulsion.
Should we take this announcement with a grain of salt? Absolutely. One thing is certain however. The world of performance cars will change. Two questions remain: when and how.

I'd like to see the Evo become a collecter's item. Give it few more years maybe I'll be able to sell the car for more then I paid for it when I'm ready to let her go. I got a good deal on my Evo 8

That's what they said with the IXs when they heard the Xs came with an aluminum/semi closed deck block. I don't believe they will be ending the evo line as they constantly mention the hybrid generation.
