You are right!! Every time I look at the Evo timeline I see how it evolved and how it came to a stop at the IX, even the IX was a bit radical but the X clearly killed the timeline.
Mitsubishi needs to kill the Evo line and come up with their throw-up designs in a new badge.

Meh. Concepts never look like the prod car so it has potential with looks, but a high performance hybrid? I wouldn't buy it because it would be ridiculously expensive to make extensive repairs and mods (I'm assuming). This is a strange direction for the Evo.

I'm also skeptical but I wouldn't count Mitsubishi out.
As much crap as they get for being a crappy company, if you look at their history Mitsubishi has been at the forefront of incorporating new technologies into their cars to make them faster, better, and more advanced. Many many of their cars use technology far ahead of their time.
They pioneered active aerodynamics on a production car (3000gt), hardtop convertibles before they were popular (3000gt spyder), turbo charged sports cars (1980's till now), torque vectoring all wheel drive systems, electronic differentials, dual clutch systems (many reviewers say TC-SST is the best on the market), all electric cars (iMiev) - the list goes on and on.
I trust that if Mitsubishi slaps the Evolution name on something that uses a hybrid powertrain, it will be a pretty impressive piece of technology. Whether it's too heavy or too slow remains to be seen, but like I said, don't count them out.
